I just have a general question about current draw. I am seriously concidering jumping on the 2000d presale and was wondering if it puts out 300 amps max current draw at 1 ohm, what will the nominal and max draw be at 2 ohms. Is there a mathmatical formula I can plug numbers in? I plan on running 2 2000d's at 2 ohms each since i have 2 dual 4 12's. Thanks guys, I still love this forum.
  2. Unless I missed it, does it say anywhere that people will be able to strap these like the 1500d's? and to what ohm can we strap them to if applicable. Thanks, Guys!!
  3. Alright thanks guys. Good to know!!
  4. Just a curious thought. Say I had a dual 4ohm speaker but my amp performs best at 1ohm. Can I add an inline resistor to the speaker to drop the ohm load to the amp? The sub is 1500 watts rms and the amp is 1500 watts rms at 1ohm. I thopught I would throw this up to see if it would be a simple solution for a 1 sub 1 amp setup

  6. Hi guys, I am interested in building a floating amp rack, but I'm not sure quite how to do it. Any info would be helpful, especially links with pics or even vids. I have a concept of what I want it to look like but not sure how to hide the wires. Thanks for anything you guys can throw at me!

Well, I had (2) 15 inch typeR's powered by a PG MS1000 and a Pioneer P9 deck W/processor. The car was a '95 Cad STS. The car and the setup are long gone now, but when I had it I listen to alot of different metal. From the great Pantera to crazy Strapping Young Lads. But the one I seemed to pop in the cd player most was Diecast (tearing down blue skies). That hit so hard and just sounded awesome. I also loved listening to Mudvayne. I may be of a different breed where I don't like ALOT of midbass and I set my sub crossovers to 50 Hz. I used the rear factory bose speakers but amped them with a 100 watt apline amp. It got really loud, just the way I like it. I love a good guitar riff as much as anybody else does but I have really sensitive ears and to me the guitars always were screaming in my head. By the way I also listen to: Throwdown, A perfect Murder, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Between the Buried and Me, Born of Osiris, The Faceless, Bury your Dead, Demon Hunter, Devil Driver, Divine Heresy, Disturbed, and Coldplay, to name a few.

Alot of people on this forum ask what vehicle a setup is gonna go into as a factor for selecting what kind of equipment they recommend. What I would like to know is, Are there certain vehicles that are better suited for a certain application? I.E. Vans for SPL? Cars for SQ? I know my question is pretty vague but I guess what I'm asking is, is there a direct relationship from the amount of air displaced by the sub to the amount of air in the cab of the vehicle to achieve maximum spl or sq? If there is, what would be the formula for finding the max airspace for any given sub configuration. For instance, having the same 1200 watt amp, electrical, HU, even leather seats, will my 2 12's sound better in an ex-cab p-up or something as large as a van or suv?
  9. Hey Big Jon, I too am in your boat. To give you a lil backround, I have been big my whole life i was 350lbs when I graduated H.S. I have always stayed somewhat active by going to the gym and playing some sort of sport. Moving onward, I recently lost my job of 4 years because I couldn't keep standing up. Not that I was too heavy but I had no balance. I went to the doc and he diagnosed me with all sorts of problems. He told me that because of my weight (currently 410) I had contracted type 2 diabetes along with high blood pressure and high everything. Well the diabetes attacked my body by eating away my muscles in my hands, calves and feet. The doc then sent me to a neurologist and thats where I found out I had a condition called periferal neuropathy. For those of you who dont know what PN is, it is a disease that attacks your nerves in your outer extremities and slowly works its way in till it kills you. I have no feeling in my legs to about my shins and minimal feeling in my hands. This all happened within the last year. HOLY ****! What an eye opener And it all stemed from being overweight. The doc says if I keep my diabetes in check, my condition won't get any worse but the damage has been done and very likely won't get any better. I have been able to keep control of everything through a medicine regimine and am now seeing a dietition who introduced me to www.sparkpeople.com a weight management site. We have talked about the gastric surgury as an option but I am not ready for that step yet, as it is a huge decision. I am however, struggling to lose weight because I love to eat. I am gonna have to work on that!! Sorry for the long post but if anybody gets anything from it, I hope it would be to Lose weight for the right reason... For yourself, how bad do you want it!! Also let my story be heads-up to what your future could be. I don't wish this on my worst enemy (if I had one) LOL. Good luck with your endeavor, and remember your not alone in this.-Ryan
  10. Hi Jason, a couple of my favorites bands now are Divine Heresy, A Perfect Murder, Diecast and Born of Osiris, along with the classics of Pantera and Megadeth. No thanks you can have your alaskan winters. The ones in minnesota are bad enough. Would 8's make good midbass drivers? I thought about mounting 2 of those in my rear deck and then go with 6in in the doors with tweets in pillar pods. Also curious about setting crossover points. Keep them steep or gradually slope them into another driver.I can go as much as 36db slope. What do you guys think?
  11. Not sure where to move this, I suppose general discussion but anyhow. I mainly listen to.......Dun Dun Dun \m/ METAL \M/...... Although I love awesome bass as well. There is nothing like the sound of the double kicks along side your head while doing 85 down the freeway. But I digress. I have pm'ed jacob on the particulars for the 3000d and I am in the process of looking into an alternator. I already have the 12 PG ti elites 12's (cause they are cool) lol. I am anxious to post pics of my build when I start it in the spring, cause it's like 16 degrees out now and I don't have a heated garage.
  12. My name is Ryan and I'm a bassaholic, Thanks guys for the welcome. I guess reality is setting in when I look at how much dough its gonna take to get this project bumpin'. I plan on getting a chrysler 300 and filling the trunk. My goal is simple and shared by alot of people. Be the best mofo on the street. However, its coming down to being the best mofo within my budget. Damn recession!! Anyhow, here is a list of what I need. any links would be helpful for best prices. The prices below are estimates. 200 amp alt: $300? powermaster D3100: $300 0 gage wiring kit: $200 sundown 3000d: $900 sundown 100.4: $350 sundown 100.2: $300 4 sets rca's: $200 sub box made: $150 spearker seperates: $150-$300 I think a competition street car wont be in the budget for a while but this is a start. Hey bigjon, I watched your vids and I like what you have going. Thats kinda what I'm looking for for my ride. I don't need ppl running out of my car cause its Meade or Chicken loud. Thanks again for the welcome and the help SSA has provided
  13. I am curious to know how many watts would be concidered enough in a "daily driver"? I know that the threshold of pain (in the ear) is around 120db's. What kind of watts are needed to acheive that. I have been around the car audio realm for the better part of 15 years but it has always been a "bigger is louder is better" way of thinking. I never really looked into the science of sound and why it all works. I am learning a great deal from this site. My very first system was an 18 inch cerwin vega powered by a 400 watt california profile amp and a kenwood tape deck. The last system I had was 2 15 inch type r powered by a 1000 watt phoenix gold amp and a pioneer p9. I now am waiting to install 2 12 inch phoenix gold Ti's that are at least 1000 watts rms apiece. Somehow, it never seems to be enough. Is putting 3000 watts into my daily driver nuts? I am realizing that this is getting to be more than a hobby, it's an investment. When I see people on SSA that have 4 18's or 16 12's or something outragious like that, I wonder if its all show and no go? I guess I'm just curious as to what others here on SSA have for daily driving.

Sweet ! Do you have it up and runnin yet? Unfortunately, I am waiting for a douche from ebay to send me my refund (been a month). I was plannin on getting 2 more subs and another 3000d. How do they sound? Do you have any Spl #s? Sorry for the questins just excited is all.
  15. :rockwoot:I learned the gain matching thing from this site!! You guys are very helpful and informative, keep it up! Thats what the main thing I was wondering as I have heard it both ways.
  16. sorry guys I meant dual 4 ohm. Reguardless are you not to match the rms of the speaker to the rms of the amp? and am I correct in assuming that all the gain is for is to set the correct line voltage from your hu?
  17. Hi everyone, I have a dual 2ohm that is 1200 wrms and 2000 peak. Can I run a 800wrms amp or more on each vc? the sub is PG titanium elite (proven power hogs). How common of a practice is this? The reason I ask is because it seems like that application would use the woofer to the fullness of its potential. Later everyone

I have tried WinISD with the nubers I have but there were some incomplete fields so I think that threw the model off some. Here is what I have: Fs: 25.2 Hz Re: 1.47 Ohms Qms: 5.1 Qes: .616 Qts: .55 Vas: 47.7 Liters Mms: 268 Grams Cms: 149 uM/Newton Vas: 10.07 Tesla-M SPL: 90.2 dB Sd: 477.2 sq cm Since I was going for sealed musical PG recommends Vb: 1.6 (includes sp. displacement) with an F3 of 33 Hz. With the #'s I put in Winisd says 2.02. If there is a better modeler let me know. I am constantly learning as this is my first "real" project where I am paying more attention to what all of the T/S parameters are and what they mean. Thanks for any advice!

It was a rare find on woofersetc.com. I got 2 of them for 625.97 shipped!! I've read horror stories from there but I couldnt pass up the deal. It took 4 days shipping from cali to minn. and everything arrived perfect serial numbers and all.

"A single layer of 3/4 mdf is not recommended due to the intense internal combustion chamber and weight of the driver." That is a direct quote from the litrature. I would understand "compression" chamber, but not the stated cumbustion. What would be your interpritation bigjon?
  21. RaTtLz replied to RaTtLz's topic in General Audio
thanks duran. They are PG titanium elite 12's. It was a concern because in my sub lit. it says MUST use 1in or (2) 3\4 because of the "intense internal combustion and weight of the driver." Thought that was a rather funny way to state a speaker! I thought cumbustion happened under the hood, not in the trunk. It's gonna blow!!! LOL

I was searching the topics around here looking for glassing the interior of a sub box, and didn't find too much. My question is. My sub calls for 1 inch MDF but my installer says he will use 3/4 and glass the inside to "keep the weight down". Do I have anything to worry about as far as flexing and structual integrity? I want to do a sealed enclosure about 1.6cu.ft. Are there any other suggestins for a sealed box? I want to do it right the first time as my funds are a lil limited. Hey thanx guys!!

Yeah M5 I decided I am gonna keep my P9. Since you are in MN, what kind of competions are around to participate in? Is there a good website you can recommend? thanks
  24. I like to research everything so I can get the best possible product for my money. I was flippin' googles pages for a nice amp when SUNDOWN came up. It was like GOD was smiling on me. So in a nutshell, I guess Google.
