Resin adds no strength. That isn't one of its properties. If you use it to coat some fibreglass, then strength is added because of the glass fibres.

Yep, 2x4s are far from staright & have a very distinguishable crown.

They aren't small or even medium sized enclosure drivers. These will require a lot of space.

Browsing around Madisound & Parts Express, I cannot find any midbass worth using that are under 2.5" in depth, and I can't think of anything off of the top of my head either. Maybe a good option is to run the CA18RLYs & tweets in the kicks & stick to 2-way.
