He told me it sounds alot cleaner but it's not louder than his stock paper cone speakers were. I told him that more than likely the shop didn't set the gain and i was gonna run through it setting it by ear. We set the high pass on the hu to 80 hz Turned the eq to natural which is flat i believe amp xover was set to full range amp bass eq was set to 0db I told him to pop a retail cd in and turn it up till he heard distortion or a change in the tone..he found that @ 25 out of 35 which i figured was way too low for the hu to be distorting at. What are we doing wrong here? should the amp be set the full range? should the xover on the hu be off?

Just get something that does 1500 @ 1 ohm You aren't gonna notice any "sq" difference between 1 and 4 ohms. I didn't wanna say this but you should do a little more reading on car audio instead of wasting bandwidth asking a bunch of stupid questions. You have to put some kind of effort into learning about the hobby.

There isn't much of a difference between flac and a 320kb mp3. They're both compressed formats Just stick with an ipod a vbr mp3 sounds fine imo
