loudest trunk car we did, 99 nissan maxima, involved both the subs and the ports facing the sides. one sub/port facing each side. that was a pair of s12xs and a ma audio hk4000d. that thing killed! was louder, lower and cleaner sounding (smaller box too) then a memphis 4kw on a pair of s12xs with both port and subs rear facing. that was in a 00 regal. similiar electricals as well. side fire jsut seem to work. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

the difference is music is dynamic, the tone was constant. that's why your sub will live. but always pay attention to it. if, after a hard session, you start to smell VC, turn it down a bit. otherwise, wang away. i've got my amp set to just clipping with a tone (and a oscope), and i've not had any issue with the sub. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

see I tried it with the speaker wires in and not in and got the same values. Is distortion noticable? I saw the video of what bass boost sounds like when it starts clipping, is it going to be that noticeable to my ear? I was messing with the gain by ear and the sub was getting really loud, but still sounded good. I'm not sure how loud is too loud since i went from 250watts single 10" sealed to a 1000watts 12" ported. I'm scared to turn the gain up cause this system is nice. I'll play with it some more and see what happens. Having it clip for a few seconds wont hurt anything right? Like if I'm playing with it to see if I can hear it clipping, that won't hurt anything right? -John take a pic of what your doing when setting the amp with the dmm. a little clipping will not hurt. so if your playing with the gain, trying to hear it clip, you won't hurt anything, especialy if u start ot smell the sub, back it off for awhile and let the coil cool. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

iirc= if i remember correctly leave both speaker wires hooked up. if you disconnect one, the amp sees no load, thus won't produce any power. otherwise, you have the dmm set correctly. also remember, the dmm method isn't precise. teh impedence changes do to a few different varibles. but it'll get you close. you still want to listen for any distortion at that gain setting. and if you hear it, back the gain off a bit. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
