Welcome to the IHoP
tonight sucks ass to one big major extreme. i just got done burying the second of two puppies tonight. two males, both who have their father's markings, died tonight. one we called lil maggie, i found dead in the kennel. the second, he was the runt, and we had several names for him, but we'll call him baby, died just a few minutes ago. in my arms. baby was having trouble for the last two weeks, we've been feeding him ourselves and everything. one step forward, two steps back. so i've got to deal with a son who grew attached to baby, as it was him who feed him, bathed him and let him sleep with him, for the last two weeks. he's heartbroken. teh wife, well, she grows attached to every animal we have. she's heartbroken as well, as she thought baby was turning around for the good. yeah, it's been a great night. fuck. am i a bad person because all i see is $1200 i just put in the ground? i must be a cold hearted sumbitch. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Is this true?
Exactly. A sine wave is smooth as it is a single fundamental frequency. A clipped signal is the fundamental frequency and some higher order harmonics. When you are badly clipping, the waveform becomes square because there are many higher order harmonics present. Just to give you an idea, if the fundamental frequency was 50Hz, then 100Hz would be the first order harmonic, 150Hz would be the second order, 200Hz the third order, etc. If you have enough of these present, you have a full on square wave, carrying a large amount of power under the curve (average power over time is substantially higher). If the speaker is capable of dissipating that average power, though, there is no damage done. It will simply sound terrible. I am always surprised how much clipping most peoples ears can tolerate and think is okay as well. leave me outa this. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome to the IHoP
Your head bleeds like a mofo to. One thing you learn quickly when you are undersized like myself. lmao..that's hilarious. sorry ryan1. but the other day i was installing an avic unit in a charger (hemi version, so the test drives were fun) and the owner wanted both the nav and sirius antennas on the inside rear deck. so here i am pulling out the back seat and decide to stand up, only i'm still inside the car. WHOOMP! smack the piss outa my head on the door jamb. me bieng me, i cuss myself out for being a dumbass and proceed to laugh at my ignorance for the next ten minutes. yeah, i'm a special person... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Why loudspeakers should all be rated at 1W/1m
Tighten up the gap, you increase B, which decreases Qes, which decreases Qts. I think I'll take some time to post about this later this weekend, but the lower Qts will lead to a smaller enclosure, assuming other parameters like Qms, Vas, and Fs (all inter-related) stay the same. When it comes to thiele/small parameters, there are only 5 that really matter, and all other parameters are derived from those. They are: BL, Mms, Cms, Re, and Sd. It's considered useless in a vehicle because of the extremely affordable high power amplifiers available. In a vehicle, consumers want a ton of output in a tiny box. How do you achieve that? Well, based on the Hoffman's Iron Law thread, we know we would probably be best to give some efficiency, keep your low end and small enclosure, and pack a ton of power on. Of course, that might also explain why car audio users damage so many speakers! Honestly, I think efficiency can be a good thing in any listening venue. Why do we need to pack on kilowatt after kilowatt when we're already getting diminishing returns? Well, it's what the consumer wants, so what's a guy to do? If only people realized what you can do with an efficient design (remember how excited people were when 95Honda from CSo did the 8 RE8's on 150W and nearly cracked 150dB?). jesus, you guys make me realize just how much i don't know about the inner working of a subwoofer. lol. thanks for making me inferior. in anycase, while i understand what parameters are important, what i'm getting at is this. if one does all the right things to make the sub that much more efficient, ie:8 ohms and whatnot, and now the motor is smaller, and just as strong, we can then build smaller enclosures, use less power and have the same output as the larger motored, less efficient, more power getting, low impedance driver? or am i way the hell off? as far as the speculation on why they aren't building things like that, it is indeed mostly marketing. teh re8 getting loud was extremely cool, but then again, tuan got damn near as loud with just rl-i 8s and a bunch more power. so we have what i'm talking about. many efficient subs with less power vs few inefficient (in comparision) subs with a bunch more power, similar results. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Why loudspeakers should all be rated at 1W/1m
If you have the space for a pretty large enclosure, that's not a terrible idea...basically where the old Stroker got its origin from This fetish for smaller boxes, more power and lower impedances really seems to be self-defeating. unless your chasing tenths on a meter. scott, my question is this. you say you can take a higher impedence woofer, tighten up the motor and it'll do the same thing as a low impedence/big motor sub. would that mean much of a change on box design, other then the obvious sub displacement? and would less power then yield similiar overall displacment? meaning cone movement. i mena, don't most people say efficiency is pretty much a useless parameter, in car anyway? i can see where in home is different, and i also now understand why pro audio speakers have much smaller asses, lol. but in car, why is efficiency not a big deal? is it because of the amplifier companies building for such low impedence? my god, i actually learned something today, lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

a few RLi-10 questions
i'd wager teh .55 is the flattest response, ie butterworth, ported enclosure specs. going .8 would help with bottom end, but make it a bit more peaky. overall sq wouldn't suffer, jsut wouldn't be as flat. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

12's doing great with about 1.1 cu.ft. ported?
wow. now i gotta go clean my keyboard. that's one sexy list of subwoofers. seriously. btw, to the OP, you can indeed do the two tens in that size enclosure (1.1 each ported). and the added cone area might just bump up output a bit. while i can't remember the name of the subs, arrizx is getting them, the tens he bought call for that exact size enclosure. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome to the IHoP
oh, and you working out is working when your the same weight as when you started, 235pds, yet your jumping higher then before. i'm damn near at the vertical i had at 185pds. i'm touching a 10'6" ceiling with me short hops, lol. in march, i would miss that ceiling by inches. and my head will touch the 8' hallway ceiling now! yay for a 24" vertical, lol!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome to the IHoP
late i know, but my lunch was a 6" oven roasted chicken breast on toasted wheat, with lettuce, tomato, banana pepper and chipotle sauce. i chased that with a peanut butter cookie and a double chocolate chip one. all from da subway. sorry, cookies are me weakness.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

An Unbiased Comparison of Linear BL Technologies
i can't say much except to say, this is a well written write up. easy for us non-engineer type people to understand. so, devil, aren't you employed by one or all three of these companies producing this/these technologies and thus are jsut typing a totally biased review? especially since i can't sell any of them? i would try a more incoherant type of typing, but i suck worse at that then my actual typing. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

it's up, the Icon review
thanks for showing up overthere. i'm all about thrashing ben's punk ass at this moment. denim, that mrkingrob fool is as asshat, lol. definitely deserves to be where he's at. so where is my paycheck? lol.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

it's up, the Icon review
lol, i'm not worried. i find it funny he calls me biased when i point out the flaws. he calls me biased and says a third party review would have been better when he wanted snoopdan to do the maw/rd comparison. yeah, he's no hypercrite (spl)..lol.. oh well, i proceed to do my best to thrash him in every post over there. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

it's up, the Icon review
yeah, i know. ben is making that perfectly clear over at ecoustics... but hey, thanks for pointing that out here as well, lol. wouldn't want anything to think i'm anything but biased, lol. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Weight loss and stress questions...help!
man, i hope you guys get things worked out. i don't know if this is relevant, but john, on your sleep problem. have you tried sleeping less? if i sleep 8-9 hours, i wake up tired as hell and lethargic (spl?). i sleep 6 hours, and i wake up a new man, ready to tackle the world. basicly, i don't go to bed until i am good and tired, but jsut before i'm to tired to move. don't know if that helps, probably not. and though i'll be a hypercrite on this, you guys are too young to not go to the doctor. you can make payments if needed, whatever. but don't let stress take over. i'm the exact guy steve described, if a body isn't chopped off, bones aren't sticking out or blood is my urine, to hell with a doctor. i won't even take an aspirin for a headache. that's not smart guys. when i had my big stress, steve knows about this, i dropped 45pds in 3 months. i actually went and talked to a clergyman. and made a trip to colorado to visit my brother's grave. i got everything out that was tearing me up inside. and throw a huge monkey off my back. i've gained 30 of those pounds back. do what you got to do, but get it out in the open, get it off your chest and worse case, get to a doctor. it might very well be physical, and yoru too young to not take care of it. and lastly, we're here. corny as it may sound. if nothing else, pm one of us. i'm pretty sure nothing will leave those pms. best advice i can offer, live with the wheeee. life is entirely way too short to make it serious. have fun and enjoy it, it ends far too soon. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome to the IHoP
there's a better one somewhere of a nitrous boosted scooter against a nos boosted firebird somewhere around here..... the scooter won too! sean, i understand. i gotta try too, win or lose. i'm game all the way up to the 120mph topend of my scoot. i've scared a few rockets as well, that is until they wind out. they can't touch me outa the hole. but they can sure brush me off topside, lol. 120mph, and they shoot past me like i'm doing fifty. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

sundowns 1500 vs kicker 1500
the syncs are indeed very nice, actually better then the sq's, IMO. a bit beefier mid (not much, but it is), all they need is the biampable xover of the sq's and they'd be perfect. lord braccus, no 4k kicker amp yet, but one is on the horizon. well, a 5k one, but rumor is not strappable. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome to the IHoP
some bitch this thing has rules?! well, kinda. racism and ricers aren't allowed. everything else is good to go. we had to have something, lol..... adn who in there right mind is reading page one? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome to the IHoP
lol..serves you right. everyone thinks h-d's are slow, and for the most part, if they aren't 1200 sportsters or vrods, they are. but it doesn't take much to make them breathe. maybe they won't get crotchrocket fast, but they'll run with the highend cars. example, about two weeks ago, i got into a roll on race with a viper. he just couldn't figure out why i stayed at his door. topend would be all him though. bu midrange, where we were playing, lol. i probably made him a bit deaf as well, lol. and mine is only 95in^3, with 205 cams. if i had a 6spd tranny where i could close up the gear ratios a bit, i would've gotten the viper, lol. but i'll settle for the draw. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Low Budget Substage
teh kicker amp wouldn't push the pair to full potential, but it would shove one around, lol. i like the kicker better then any rf product. alot more amp, IMO, for the money. i have yet to see a kicker amp not underrated by at lest 100wrms. the subs, jsut to keep you in budget. IME, the maw10 will crush the rf subs, but your budget is the killer, lol. teh maw10 would be a sweet sub to get. if nothing else, you've got $50 left in your budget, why not add the extra $20 and get a new maw10? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

A question asked all too much.....
teh maws are so cheap because mark wants them that way. no other reason, expect they are a no frills, do what they are designed to do, blue collar sub. mark could easily charge twice what he's charging. the maws will indeed handle 500wrms. the maw12 i've played with took right at 600wrms for a few weeks, two different boxes, not a single issue. the maws only come d4, so if your shopping for a pair (if you want 12s, you have to go direct from mach5audio.com), make sure teh amp you chose will produce it's power at 1 ohm mono, 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm mono. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
