The Pico fuse is there to keep morons from seriously damaging the hu when they hotswap the rca's. I guess that means you have had Pico fuse issues. Here's your sign.....

Single Icon 10 with about 900 or so watts in an Explorer...Holy hell! And this is not an spl driver....It sounds entirely too good.

help finding a head unit
There are some pros and cons to the Clarion. Kudos to Clarion for finally coming out with a double din with active built in. The downfall for me is a max of 12 db slope. I prefer steeper for my tweets. That may not be an issue for a lot of people though. Just don't run your tweets too low. The great thing is the capability to run dual bandpass. You can use the built in 3 way crossover section for a 3 way front stage and cross over your sub with the sub amp. Or the ability to use a widebander in place of a tweet.

Double din, 3 way active, time alignment all the goodies. http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2012/multimedia/navigation/NX702/us-en-product-hi_1259559423434.html

How does a tweet that can be safely crossed at 2.5 limit choices in a mid? You can mate it up to almost 6 1/2 and a lot of 7 inch mids just fine. If I had reccomended a tweet that needs to be crossed at 5k I can understand how that would be limiting a mid choice. Unless the op wants to go up to an 8 inch mid....Then I would suggest a widebander or 3 way. I digress....perhaps more info is needed.

I don't like the 25. And yes, there are others that can be "better" in the price range but we've still been given NO information so shopping or recommending a tweet now is wrong and misleading. WAY too early. You're entitled to your opinion and I have the same priveledge. We are all here to speak our opinion.....And.....after 4 pages if i nor anyone else can give a solid reccomendation based upon experience perhaps I'm not aware of the proper forum etiquette here.

Good e.q.s
The eq in my 80prs does just fine.

This is kinda against the rules, Sorry but need help....
The Vifa's I posted are very similar to the ones I have. I'm crossing mine at 2.5 with a 24 db slope running active off 2 channels of my ESX Q 120.4. They take a great deal of power, get incredibly loud and crystal clear and I barely touch my eq in the tweet range. Right now I'm down 1 notch at 8k. I suspect that it's just a sensative spot in my hearing. They hold very true to the published graphs. I guess if I could find a downfall it would be that they really fall off the further they are off axis. If you can keep them within 30 degrees or so it's not an issue. I would highly doubt you'll find a better sounding tweeter in the price range.

shipping on a subwoofer?????
My 2 cents....I am in the shipping business. I consistantly see Fedex being about 1/3 the cost of ups. I only use UPS if my back is absolutely against the wall and I have no choice.

Replacing dustcap
That's a good point. I guess if the crack separates I would get noise. I guess I will cut it out then. I didn't think of that. Thank you.
-
Replacing dustcap
Yes it will change them. Why didn't you get a new cap from SSA? I was willing to live with the crack. It didn't break through but it did bother me. My son actually bought it for me....Birthday gift along with an 80prs from the entire family. So it is worthwhile cutting out the old....I didn't realize it would affect it that much. I should throw this thing on a gram scale. A few grams at most.

Replacing dustcap
I managed to crack the dustcap on beloved OG blue cone Icon 10. I won't get into how I did it but it really has me pissed. I went and got a carbon fiber cap from Fix My speaker. My question....What harm would there be in just glueing the cf cap right over the original? I haven't weighed the cf cap but it feels like it weighs next to nothing. Would it throw off my parameters a lot?

Question for those running ESX amps
I finally found my answer....Thought I would update this in case anyone was wondering. My hu....Eclipse cd8454.....In pro mode....Active...there is no actual sub level adjustment. There is however sub level in non pro mode. I would have never guessed this but by switching to non pro mode I went to the sub level. It was at 5 of 15 I believe. I bumped it up to 8 and went back into pro mode. Apparantly that setting sticks so to speak when changing modes. When I turned up the volume I instantly realized what I found on DIY was correct. I now have my gain turned down slightly above half and I'm in my glory. What an odd feature or should I call it a glitch within these Eclipse hu's. BTW....Macs over at DIY is a freakin genious.

Question for those running ESX amps
I think i will try a dmm. My eclipse actually doesnt have a sub level that i can turn up. It has a level adjustment for each output but you can only decrease the level. Not increase.

Question for those running ESX amps
Like the title says....I have a question for those running or have owned an ESX amp. ESX Q275.2 is on my Icon 10. The Icon is d2 and wired for 4 ohms in bridged mode at the amp. The bridged mode is rated at 800 watts. The hu is an Eclipse CD8454 with a pre out voltage rating of 8 volts. My issue is setting the gain. With well recorded media ....(No Ipod) Only high quality cd's....I feel my gain is too high to obtain the right output. Yes I fully realize that the gain is not a volume knob. I also realize that I could get my answer with a dmm but I don't have one at the moment. So my situation is...8 volt hu....Amp gain is at 3/4 of the dial. I have been playing music at 70-74 max out of a volume scale of 0-80 on the Eclipse. that doesn't make me warm and fuzzy. I haven't heard any distortion at all at 74 but I'm not sure I'm crazy about going that close to max volume. I realize that every hu will clip eventually. Shouldn't I be hitting my gain sweet spot at a much lower gain setting? Any thoughts on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Even more impressed
I like that though...You're honest. I'm gonna need a few weeks of tweaking to really see where I'm at. Where I'm at as far as level matching. I think I might have found my sweet spot...That is the sweet spot just between getting really loud...sounding great and still keeping my hearing. I don't know how you guys ride around with a couple thousand watts on tap.

Even more impressed
Would it really? I am thinking along the lines of a 12 and a new Icon would be my first thought. However the Icon I have is in pristine condition and I have no reason to want or need to replace it.My son bought the Icon I have here and get a hell of a deal. I can'[t remember who he bought it from but I know there is a Youtube vid of the original owners car that had 3 tens in it. He took very good care of his equipment. I would not doubt it, Mark and Aaron have doe a lot of changes since the first gen Icon, I would not upgrade unless you had to. I was thinking along the same lines....A company like SSA is always going to find ways to improve. But....What I have works great. If and when I need to upgrade a new Icon will be mine. Understand...the wife isn't crazy about a semi old man like myself still having a fascination with car audio.
