  1. hope this turns out nice for you. Can't wait for the pics. Wish I had money/time to go out and work on my set up, until then I live vicariously through the build log photos everyone posts.
  2. looks sexy, that is one huge motor. fit on the boot is nice too. My oz audio Matrix elites boot is designed to fit flush like that as well, definitely a nice touch. It's the little things on fit an finish/attention to detail that make all the difference in the world. definitely staying tuned for the fully finished pics. And more angles.
  3. I do believe I'm in love. Is that a single slug, or a boot covering it?
  4. pictures please, and expected price point.
  5. my brother had an old rockford fosgate punch 360a2 amplifier that burnt tinsel leads like a mofo. Just about every other week we were pulling a sub out to resolder a tinsel lead, had phoenix gold and JL both warranty a burnt tinsel lead for us even though it states it's not covered in their warranty info. We swapped the amp out for a different amp, and no more cooked tinsels. Just some nice bass.
  6. if this is your first box, and yo're building by yourself way to go so far. look at your hands, if all the fingers are there, and knuckles aren't all bloodied up your doing a great job and count this build a check in the positive category so far.
  7. I am currently running the Re SEX15 sealed in the back of my SUV, and am loving it. Running it off of a PPI sedona series 850.1 amp. Have to say, ordered the sub over a year ago, had it in the garage until a couple months ago when I finally got around to hooking it up, and after reading all of the negative RE viewpoints being thrown around, I was pleasantly surprised with it. down the road I will likely be building a nice ported enclosure for it, but for know, am definitely enjoying it sealed.
  8. It was moved so Kevin can not edit it.ahh, ok, I agree with your logic and reasoning then. carry on, carry on...
  9. when the hell did this get moved to Off topic? Could've swore it was in Skar's section an hour ago???
  10. I find it's all about doing your homework. I live in a fairly nice neighborhood (smaller homes on my street start ~ $250,000 and go up from there, house directly across the street from me would run you between $400k and $500K if it went up for sale), I'm in the lowest crime rate district area in my city, and it is a small subdivision that only has one entrance/exit. Well lit neighborhood with good streetlighting at night. And is no where close to the higher crime rate areas of town. All these factor higher into not getting your car broken into higher than an alarm.
  11. i forget what it was that I was told when I got my policy to get my deductible from $1000 down to $500, same with the cars I could pay a higher premium and get the deductible from $500 down to $300. To an insurance company it's all percentages and cost benefit. What you pay more in premium has to even out over time to make them more than the $ lost on deductible in the event of a claim payout.
  12. in Canada (for example, not sure about how it is in the U.S.), on your property or not, if your vehicle gets broken into it's auto policy (for anything automotive) plus home policy for anything non automotive specific that may be in the vehicle at the time(tools or CD's for example they try to force the claim on your house) so you wind up paying auto deductible for the car stereo and broken car window ($500 for me) plus they try to say the 120 cd's have to be claimed against the house ($1000 deductible)... It's a lot of arguing with them, a lot. Pretty much, insurance companies will put the claims where they want them, and give you as little as they can. Home deductibles are generally higher, unless you choose to increase your premium quite a bit, due to the fact that there is more value in the home to cover/lose (normally)
  13. you said your dad had his in the back yard behind a closed gate? That means it's out of view from a passerby, if they know it's there it becomes a target if it's out of sight from the general eye. I park mine beside an armed guard tower in a max security prison parking lot, seems to be a good deterrent.
  14. haha, well, If you met my best friends dad (he's a professor of ethics and theology at st. paul's university) you wouldn't even want to start into the philosophy side of things. Give him an hour and he'll leave your head spinning for months on everything you thought you "knew" or "believed". He makes a living off of questioning people's beliefs, and has a ton of fun screwing with the mind of everyone he meets. And I agree, science is just one path of study, what I look for is duplicity. Are you able to generate the same results twice. Like I said above about my wife, that is just one given instance of her having this "gut instinct" as I'll call it. She has had this exact same physiological experience for a week plus with the nightmares etc... numerous times while we've been together, and everytime she'll turn to me, or call me wherever I am and say, "the sick feeling in my stomach just went away" and you could use it to determine time of death on someone we know. happened with her aunt, her cousin, her best friend when she was little, in the story above, and more. It's frightening how accurate it is.
  15. Can't say I disagree with what you are saying, as I agree whole heartedly, that one should question their surroundings, and not blindly believe anything unless it can be proven. Probably why I'm not religious, and hate churches. Have always been someone who needs to see proof before believing, and am normally the one arguing from the side you are. But I also believe that science has it's limitations, and due to the fact that the science we use and follow is being conducted by humans, one must also account for human error in science. Thus the reason for the need for future studies/tests, third party double blind replication of outcomes etc...
  16. ah, house hunting, can be so frustrating... Don't miss it at all. Best of luck with the search.
  17. well, my dad has no feeling from the waist down, and despite the entire neuro team in the nations capital working on him, with special case doctors being brought in from switzerland, and test's being sent to the US as well, they still, with all of their "science" can't explain why or what's wrong. So, since science can't explain it,does that make it not real or not happening? science is still based on the human's doing the work, and as a race, you can't claim we aren't fallible. One must realize our limitations. Not saying all ghost stories etc... are real, and never really have been on to be superstitious or believe in the supernatural, but when for a week, my wife tells me that she feels sick and is having nightmares of someone dying in a car accident and can say it's a male, then at lunch she looks at me and says the sick feeling just went away, someone we know just died, to find out that when she said that her best friends boyfriend had swerved off the road and died crashing into a tree, I believe her unexplainable feelings, and that's not the only time she's had this just one instance. and just as a note, that week was hell for me, she was nagging me to call her before I left the house (we were just dating at the time) and when I got where I was going, anytime I was going to be driving, because she knew someone was going to die in a car crash. I was losing my mind with how paranoid I thought she was being.
  18. well, back at work now, but about a week ago, the wife and I bought a Jayco jayflight swift slx 184BH camper. Were able to get a spot this weekend and took the kids camping. First time I've ever drove with a trailer in my life other than picking it up and bringing it home (which I had my dad come to help me with). Was a fun time. Going again next weekend, lots of memories to be making with the kidlets...
  19. have one here in kingston, believe it's on it's way out however. Used to go to one near my parents growing up, but I think it closed about 5-6 years ago or better. Used to love going to the all nighter's they called them, and have a third movie from 1 am to 3 am (was always a fun time, my brother, my dad and I).
  20. there's definitely more out there than we can "see" or "understand" My wife has a pretty weird sixth sense. Always know when someone close to us/her is about to die. She'll start with feeling a knot or sick feeling in her stomach that is not explainable, the start having nightmares of someone dying in a fairly specific manner (car crash, etc...) for numerous nights in a row. Then all of a sudden she'll not feel sick anymore and that is when the person died. Works right on cue, freaks the shit out of her to no end, and makes her jumpy as hell when it kicks in. Turns her into a nervous wreck, cause she won't know who's going to die, just that it's someone close. The stronger the sick feeling/worse the nightmares, the closer to us the person is. She used to be able to see/talk to ghosts/spirits when she was little as well, but she has lost that ability, she believes likely through willful suppression on her part when she was younger.
  21. welcome to the site, many around here with great depth of knowledge, and very helpful group. Best of luck with your future car audio endeavors.
  22. what voice coil configuration do you have? Or are you buying to suit the amp you pick? If the second is the case, I am currently running a precision power sedona series 850.1D and so far am impressed with it. it can be had through sonicelectronix for 159.99 and is rated for 850 watts x 1 @ 1 ohm http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_24975_Precision-Power-PPI-S850.1D.html?SearchClickout%5Bquery_id%5D=21981949&SearchClickout%5BIgnore%5D=1 Sort of just to compare: MB Quart RA1000.1 (1000watts @ 1 ohm) 188.95 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_67866_MB-Quart-RA1000.1.html MTX TD1000.1D (1000watts @ 1 ohm) 169.95 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43786_MTX-TD1000.1D.html RE Audio DTX-2000.1 (1000watts @ 1 ohm) 179.99 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_68066_RE-Audio-DTX-2000.1.html Rockford Fosgate R750-1D (750watts @ 1 ohm) 208.99 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_34763_Rockford-Fosgate-R750-1D.html
  23. you know you're addicted when... -you got your first pair of 10" subs for x-mas at 15 yrs old (can't get a drivers license till 16) -Buy subs/amps just to try them out with no intention of ever keeping them... -Your 4 year old asks if we can take the SUV cause he just likes the big speaker that goes boom... And then complains because mommy won't turn it on for him... (and I keep it turned down quite low with him in the vehicle, my wife has it turned off anytime she's driving) -it took you twice as long to install your current system because you had your 2yr old and 4yr old helping because you couldn't wait for your wife to get home from work... -most of your time spent on the computer is looking at different car audio gear that you would like to buy, and the rest is spent reading car audio forums.
  24. yes, but a vehicle is full of reflective surfaces as well, and anything playing up front will undoubtedly reflect off of every surface available, including those behind you, just the same as a live venue correct? Therefore for ease of imaging/sound stage adjustment would it not be better to run a properly powered/installed set of front speakers/components? But then for many, who don't care about the above, but just want their stereo to be "louder" would it not be easier for them to just upgrade the stock located speakers all around and amp them with no care for proper imaging/sound stage? Or is our crazy obsessiveness for proper what everyone the world over should strive for?
  25. personally I try to hide all my wiring as best as possible, so I don't care if it looks pretty. And besides, what is so wrong with plain black wire? Myself my power is red and my ground is black, but I've had this wire for about 7 years now, and in multiple vehicles. Everytime my vehicle changes I pull out the system and wiring, look it all over and inspect it for any possible damage, then re-install. So money well spent for me. I see no need for blue/silver/pink/purple/green etc... When someone tells me that they can get wire in all different jacket colours all I see are $ signs.
