  1. Please don't buy that amp
  2. Better speakers, not more speakers, is usually the best thing to do
  3. What would you run active.....thanks I'll keep all that in mind. Definitely will need to go read up on active xovers...
  4. isn't it tanzania? J/w... that's awesome Is everything going on the side or under the box? I assume thats what the indents are for.
  5. I'd love to try some 8's or 10s i've only had twelves (all single) just to see for myself how they compare
  6. Rims = not so much Install = amazing!!
  7. Definitely agree. Also I'm seeing that sound deadener is a must and will help much more price wise than new speakers and such. tweeter placements seems pretty subjective and then a lot of tuning..... What else would you recommend? And what do you think of the front stage? J/w.... edit: Seems like the 9887, 880PRS and CD7200 mkii are compared a lot, and i noticed you have an 880. have you messed with the 9887? Anything you like more on one or the other?
  8. Ya....it's probably cheaper than yours. And don't rag on me for the AQ stuff, thanks. Everything else, go for it. I'll keep it in mind when i upgrade I'm new to all this, so I'm not sure what i want or need. It seems that 24 bit burr-brown and a 7 band parametric eq are very nice things, and its kinda paradoxical but AUX or Ipod input somehow. I'd say high volt preamp outs, but that seems to be a hotly debated topic. I gather that it matters but not too much....correct?
  9. So here is my system so far: ID CTX65CS comps SAX-125.2 for the comps AQ1200D amp SDC2.5 12" sub Now i was told by the only good car audio place in town that the 9887 is the way to go. I read on here that there's really no reason to buy the 9886 (or anything at that level) and that the OP should either go up or down. I'm not planning on buying anything new, at least head unit wise, for a really long time so I don't want screw up. I really don't know too much about head units. I haven't even bought one....I have a sony xplod that came with my first car, and I still have it (its been about 2-3 years). But that HU just isn't gonna cut it anymore. I figure I'd be fine with the 9887, but just want to make sure there isn't any definitively better deck for the money.
  10. Oh gotcha. Ya I routered the edges on the inside of the port and was just too excited to finish the rest yet lol
  11. Smooth it out? Like round the edges or what?
  12. The bass boost is still boost, but the bass knob is a gain knob.
  13. Haha it's definitely for my ears I haven't gotten everything in permanently cause i'm going to make a 1/2" MDF false floor. I know my neighbors pretty well and they know of my hobby lol. Everyone else in my neighborhood kinda keep to themselves.... I'll have pics up in a bit Not sure if i want to carpet it or paint it.....and right now my amp is sitting on my folded down seat lol. I'm going to make and MDF shelf for it now that finals are over WOOHOO!!!
  14. Haha i hate those people! And there's a LOT of them in ABQ (and probably everywhere else lol).
  15. They don't expect someone like me out there in the middle of nowhere. Haha I'm glad you had a camera! At first glance i didn't really like it, but it's acutally a pretty sweet looking hatch

I think a 200 amp is too big.....I'd do some research, cause I'm not sure about that. 4 Guage will be fine. And I don't know about the HUs, I've only owned one, a sony HU but I'm looking into an alpine 9886 or 9887
  17. IF they say there's nothing wrong with his amp after this long thread... then it's not our fault for missing something as i cant see any other possible reason for such problems. It would be clearly due to neglected installation if the amp tests fine. Haha I didn't quite go into the depth we have in this thread. I really see no way its not the amp if he's done everything we've said..... Definitely call up DJ or email him and link him this thread. He'll help out any way he can
  18. I had this happen to me....same amp, different subs. I sent it back to AQ but they said nothing was wrong with it, it's my setup. I changed the RCAs, and the remote turn on. I used the bass knob this time, set the gain all the way up on the amp and used the knob. Now it sounds great. I think you mentioned you switched RCAs though... I really wish I could help more than this, but this is just my experience
  19. So first try at everything failed miserably.....my box sucked, my amp mysteriously blew fuses, etc. But now! I built a new box for my AQ SDC2.5 12" sub.....around 2cuft net tuned to ~38Hz.......and got the sub put in and all ready to go. Now, I was more than a little nervous hooking up my amp. I rechecked EVERYTHING to make sure all the wires were good, and i got some new RCAs (mainly cause i wanted to). Finally, it was time to hook up the power wire.....seriously, I was scared. But for no reason Hooked it up, and nothing blew! Then i turned on my car, and the sub didn't play. I was like, "Of course..." but after double checking the gains, and adjusting the bass knob (which is really a gain knob on the AQs) I got it all working and... HOLY CRAP!!!! I haven't owned anything that sounds that good! Haha unfortunately other cars will hear the bass too, so I'll have to watch the volume. I will NOT be that douchebag at the light making everyone listen to his bass Oh and I'm not sure I'm keeping the car which the only reason it isn't dampified yet. Anyways, this was big deal for me so I thought I'd share it with you guys
  20. Haha that jeep has quite a significant amount of weight in damplifier in it!

Yep, i think most people on here will. No we don't have Opel, we have Saturn. GM and Ford don't like selling their sweet euro cars over here, we get the crap for the most part And what are the banana plugs for?
  22. suprefly replied to Pezzaboi's topic in Fi Technical
By bolt terminals, he means drilling a hole in the box and using an actual bolt for the terminal....i think brass bolts work well. I wish we got Vauxhalls in the US I guess technically we do, just rebadged, but still.....
  23. props to Mercedes!!! this is pretty sweet But man i really want to know what song is played right after We Have Band.... edit: heck yes!!! its part of the 25th trendy indie Haha thats what i get for not listening to all the music before typing
  24. agh......such ridiculous prices! NO! Don't give in...... How long is the sale?
