yeah subs dont need to break in, as is commonly thought to be. The spiders just loosen up and let the cone move more freely, giving more bottom end. after a couple days make sure that there isn't any distortion on the low end and just keep an ear for anything going wrong. or smells that shouldn't be there. all in all. just be smart about it, that's the best advise, but you already know this!

like this, for instance. (excluding the one that goes on your batt. post. You cant read that from the cab lol) http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=stinger+volt+meter&_sacat=See-All-Categories

setting your gain by position isn't good. turn the knob 'till you start hearing the sub break up, go back a bit and you should be good. if you hear the sub straining on some notes still, turn it down again. Do this 'till you dont hear any distortion and are at a comfortable level. I've forgotten if you've got a volt meter or not. if you dont i suggest getting one. Shouldnt have too much of a problem, but it's better than not knowing what your electrical is doing.

Fi Audio Subwoofer Comparisons
I would suggest two 12 inch SSDs for your particular case. They will sound great and get loud for under $400 which is what you want according to your first post. With the stock 160 amp alt and the big 3 you could quite possibly be alright as far as electrical. If not you could always add another battery or two for a couple hundred buckss. The SSDs would also be favorable if you have to purchase a new amplifier a nice 1500w amp could be sufficiently cheaper than a 2000w amp.

So i've got a bit of alternator whine. Started when i put the front stage in, seemed to only came from the right mid. Now with the new RCAs it's coming from all the front stage. mostly in the right side mid. So i unplugged RCA to channel 3, that took away some whine. Then channel 4 as well. All the whine is gone. Does this mean it's the amp's RCA inputs going kooky? Hope not. The heat sink is touching some bare metal, would that create some issues? i can't test that right now, but i believe i have before and it didn't change anything... Any ideas? :ughdunno:

Ported SA-12... wow
depends on your box size/tuning and all. Have to try what you want and listen for when the sub starts to be stressed. back off a bit when you get there. Or if you're giving more power, but there is no gain. stop and turn it back down to where there was no gain to be had.

So, got my Monoprice RCAs in today. Quick swap from the Knu eKos that i didn't like for some reason. Not too exciting for y'all but i had fun! took some pics. to boot! Starting to remove the old. I thought i had a pic. of how bunched it all looked. but i guess not. this is with the 2 RCAs for the 100.4 removed. They are 6 meters long? In a CRX that's crazy. I got 10 ft. ones and they are still a little long. Probably could have went with the 6, but i figured better longer than too short. And after. mess i later neatly wrapped and twist-tied. Anyone wanna' buy some RCAs?

Starting from Scratch
it's going to depend and vary on each individual. I already have my car, and some subs laying around so i start here (x). My friend may not have his car, but has an amp laying around that he wants to use. so he would start at Y. there is no set system people take to build their car that works for everyone. it's going to depend on their goals, and what they want most/first out of their system. Totally understand what you're doing, but would be hard/time consuming to make a generic list that works for everyone. But with that said i would do this. 1. Figure out what vehicle you're using 2. budget 3. what space is being used/how much fab. work will be done 4. Determine goals of the particular build 5. Post a valid, informative build topic here and get insight/tips/suggestions. From there it's really going to change. I just read a topic the other day with people going to and fro on what to do amp/sub/power wise first. in the end if you're going to do it all, just pick something and start from there. The install of one component may change what you planned to do with another, which will change your list even more. That's how i see it. I always just go with what i have and see what needs to be done next. Make my "list" as i go on.
