i think you're mixing up the amp going into protect and clipping... your gains are probably set to high with not a strong enough electrical system to back it up.
If there are no worries if it flying into the cabin in a worst case scenario then they (L brackets) should be fine.

i would look for at least a 1k rms amp to get the full potential of the icon, epically if you're looking to get loud.
Sure, you just run the risk of hurting the amp trying to push it to hard to get enough output probably. We don't really know what you're going for though.
