  1. The Alpine WILL NOT have factory warranty through EBAY. The Sundown however will have a full and transferrable warranty. My choice would be with the Sundown for that reason, among several others.
  2. That poor thing deserves a 21 gun salute. Is it even repairable with that much burnt material coming from out of the motor? It died a horrible death, looks like it saw 480v.
  3. Welcome to the forum!!! Yeah where at in Indiana??
  4. Welcome to the forum!!!
  5. Why not look into the Crescendo 3k? Get a dual 1 BTL and run it at 2 ohms and have room for expansion later, or get a dual 2 run it at 1 ohm and have TONS of headroom on tap for that sub. Either way at $550 new it's not a bad choice and it's supposed to be built just like a Sundown SAZ3000.
  6. Where you at Blak? There's lots of people on the forum, surely there would be someone fairly close to you with the tools and skillz to help you out.
  7. That's just too cute man. Look at the smiles on their faces, they're having a BLAST.
  8. I'm not sure what kind of terminals your rear battery has, but I have seen on SEVERAL occasions when someone used the standard top posts on a battery where the posts had some oxidation on them that they didn't clean before putting the terminals on which caused the connections to have problems within a day or two of the installation. Took the terminals off, cleaned the posts and terminals with a dremel brush and put them back on. Two guys I've helped with this I know are still bumping the same stuff today, one after about a year, the other has been running strong 3 years now.
  9. OMG Jacob, I can't wait to see what the end result will be like. (assuming everything in the prototype testing works out to your goals) Everyone thinks the SA-8's are badass, these sound like the beat all/end all of the small subwoofer market. Good luck!!
  10. Look at it like this. Having lots of problems gives you the opportunity to learn how to troubleshoot the problems, find the best way to repair the problems, and gain the knowledge and experience to avoid the same problems in the future. I know it sucks. I'm married, have 4 kids, and my 18yo little bro lives with us. I have VERY little spare $$$ for when things go bad.
  11. I'll save Nick the trouble. Speakers are dumb, they do what you tell them to do. Sending it a clipped signal generates more heat in the coil than sending a little more than CLEAN rated power will. (open to debate I know, but I agree with it) You sent it a clipped signal, and you knew it, now it's blown. It sucks, I know, but if you get the signal problem fixed and get the sub reconed, you'll be better off than you were before.
  12. Welcome to the forum man! Post some pics, I can read them better, LOL.
  13. Good luck and God speed. Be careful over there and return home safe and unhurt. BTW, Thank you for what you're doing. I don't think you folks get all the credit you're due.
  14. Unless someone else has any further questions I think you very clearly explained everything and that's exactly what I was hoping for. Until someone can really understand the reasons why anyone would go through so much trouble to tune a stereo system I don't think they can fully appreciate the difference it can make. I've seen it many times where people just crank everything up and think things are dandy and then I come along and change some settings for them and they flip out cuz they never thought it could sound that good, get louder, etc. Proper tuning is key for good sound even if SQ isn't the goal. I think anyone who reads your build log and then gets to the excellent summary and description of your time tuning and dialing everything in will appreciate the hard work you've done and perhaps spend a little more time themselves going through and checking settings, tuning and testing phasing to see what they may be able to do with their systems even if they're not as ellaborate or SQ oriented.
  15. That's fantastic!! I wish I was close enough to hear it as well. Out of idle curiosity, what settings have you ended up with thus far? (crossover points, slopes, and phasing?) I think it's particularly good for those who may not fully understand what correct phasing and tuning can accomplish to hear it from someone who's recently spent some time working heavily on tuning. Any chance you could give some details some time on the testing and the differences you heard when things started to come together?? Of course results will vary for all, but you could give some good insight as to why it's worth the trouble, I think.
  16. WOW, I'm glad you cleared that up. I was really lost. LOL, j/k! Using your real name does just kind of make sense though, good move.
  17. Oh yeah, there's a good recommendation. Thanks phi, forgot about that one.
  18. There's no doubt the Big 3 is a necessity. You should very seriously have at least a couple of good size batteries for that kind of power and be thinking about saving for a HO alt. 2000 watts can be ran on a couple of good batteries, the big 3 and the factory alt as long as you're watching your voltage and not driving the amp into low voltage situations. IMO once you go well above 2000 then a HO alt and a good bank of batteries should be considered standard issue to keep from having any issues. Once the voltage begins to drop the current draw goes up quite a bit and so does the temp of the amplifier. That's not to say you have to have it all in place before you connect the first wire, but it should definitely be on the shopping list, also consider you may get all the output you're looking for without running the subs to full power. I should have mentioned it before for better suggestion results, what are the goals of your setup, what vehicle is it going into, what (if any) equipment do you already have?
  19. Congratulations on an excellent purchase. Anything that can put out a clean 2500+ watts would be great. The new Sundown 2500 would be a perfect fit. A used or referbished SAZ 3000 would be a good match as well and there's a few for sale if you look around. The possibilities are really only limited by your budget and also make sure your electrical can hold up to the demands of that much power as well. Everyone will be mentioning their own favorite brands, you'll get lots of good recommendations.
  20. Dang Impious, that was something else. Boredom can make us do some strange things. LOL
  21. Glad to see you got it fixed. I love to learn new things, and if Malware Bytes was able to fix your machine then I'll have to add that to my arsenal of software for helping people out. +1 to you Joe.
  22. dude.... that REALLY sucks... depending on what's got ahold of your machine there may not be much you can do.... if you're using XP, Vista or 7 you can try a system restore to the last time it saved restore point... you may also try installing spybot search and destroy and ad-aware, download and install them in SAFE MODE and see if what has your machine is some sort of spyware they can clean out for you, as a matter of fact this should be your first move.... if neither of those things fix it there may not be much else you can do with it..... I absolutely HATE when that happens and its the main reason why EVERYONE should be using software that acts as Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, pop-up stopper, firewall and identity protection all at once and all the time... Or, if you don't use ALOT of windows based software you can switch to Ubuntu it's pretty safe from Viri...... or, dual boot it and watch all your porn on it... lol in all seriousness though, I feel for ya.... it really sucks when your machine gets whacked....
  23. X2, X3, and more.... Everyone has great points here. Books or DVD's really won't help that much, they cover only the MOST basic skills usually and the examples won't work for EVERY vehicle out there. You'd still have to learn what you need to do for your specific vehicle. We're all on here for two main reasons, to learn anything new that we can, and to help out in any way we can. You'd be surprised how easy it is to learn once you dive into it and get your hands dirty. Then, you'll not only have learned some new things, you'll also have the pride to say you did it yourself. What kind of car do you have and where are you at? Chances are there's a forum member or two close by who could help out or give pointers where you need them.
