Am i wrong here?
his response was I dont know much about car audio but i do have a basic understanding of it.. thoughts? Can you get good sound quality from a coaxial yes. in my opinion, a system will always sound better with sepeate components. subs, mids, tweeters, etc. just because his frequency response on his coaxials is 60hz-25khz doesn't mean he getting every frequency played clearly. he has no control on what frequency the tweeter or the mid range of the coaxial on going to play at seperate. he relying on the crossover on the speaker to decifer that. and that whole thing about being a judge. ask him how many comps he has won since he's a judge. and yes it does matter what kind of speakers you use. would you go to walmart and get some sony explods if you had the money to spend on some focals? better quality speaker, better sound. if you ask a SQ competitor, most likely they are using an amp to power their system, components or not.

good one. How bout when you get rear ended and the first thing you check when you get out the vehicle is to see if you subs were damaged. Haha

subwoofer unloading
This is my Theory of what happens. subs have a Fs which is the the free air resonant frequency of the speaker. if a sub has a Fs of 35 hz and you tune your box to 35 hz. the speaker will resonant at that frequency. tuning a box to far below that like 28hz, 25hz or something like that, I might not have the right kind of pressure to keep the speaker from hitting it's Xmech, which is the max mechanical excursion of the speaker. that's why you might hear stories of people say there 1500watt sub blew out on 900watts of power. because the speaker bottomed out and reach it's Xmech because of tuning below Fs.

Anyone know about MA Audio HK1997?
If it has a problem where it never goes off then I damn sure wouldnt want it in my car (drawing power continously to eventually drain your battery). You should look into something else cheap and new but I wouldnt get that because it will be cheap now but may cause you all kind of problems in the future which probably wont be cheap to fix. Just my .02 x2. wouldn't want that continuously draining power from the battery.

Waking up amps...
All I have to say is wow, I've heard it all. Did you even read the amps manuals to know the name or spot they go or do any research to find this out on your own but I guess not (SUB OUT is for RCA's and Remote Wire is usually blue or blue w/white strip). Read amps manual and head-units manual, that should be the first thing to do before installing especially if your a beginner. Reading is fundamental. wow. LOL!!

Waking up amps...
what you could do is find a small empty ignition switch in your fuse block under your dash and use that for your remote turn on.

i would assume that inhaling small particals of anything could hurt you. especially wood. the same concept goes for wearing a mask when sanding bondo.

YOUR LOCAL CAR AUDIO SHOPS
what's really popular in the audio shops in houston is memphis, kicker, JL. I sell and try to push soundstream, re audio/usamps. people here don't know about these companies. let alone sundown or IA. people are going to go with what they know and if what they know if what all the other shops tell them. i had a customer with two kicker L7s and i'm telling him that one RE AUDIO xxx-15 that would blow both of those subs out of the water. he didn't believe me until i showed him the sub. he was speechless. long story short, i installed it and he couldn't have been happier. just having someone say thank you for the good work and honesty about product is the satifaction that i need.

x2. I just started my own business in houston,tx and i'm operating out of my garage right now until i get the funds to start a store front. I get NUMEROUS, I mean NUMEROUS people coming to me about what another shop said about product or how things are supposed to be done and everytime i have to school them on what is right and it blows their mind on how much they were misinformed. I think it's rediculous how some shops prey on the customer.

What do you mean by MDF being hard on equipment? Please explain more, I havent coughed up blood (none of my friends have either and they build boxes all day long). Instead of writing small statements, please give better explanantions so I can further understand. If this was the case then why do everybody and there mother use MDF (95% of the time if not more). If you build your box correctly you dont need screws or nails, so that is not to relevant (plus I used nails in my box). I agree. I've never heard of people coughing up blood or anything like that. me and my friend build boxes out of MDF for people out of a garage and never has he said anything like that. Yes there is going to be dust. when is there not going to be dust in the air when working with wood?? If your worried about the strength of MDF. you could go with birch wood. it's lighter but more dense that MDF.

I would of slapped some pucking reality in is ass to wake him up while laughing at him, if he was hitting 229dbs then everyone would know about it by now (do TL meters even go that high, I would of said what did he use to measure it if they dont). the funny thing is that he was so confident in what he was talking about. i told him that the record is held by dd and stetsom at like 181. somthing. he was like well i know he hit 229db. YEA RIGHT!!
