Time for new crossovers and new boxes
Any chance you have any active help to dick around with as you narrow it down? If so it surely makes it easier to make some decisions.

Sound advice
I think you are missing the point completely. In an SQ install the subs don't really matter, when you are only playing your sub/s from 20-45hz or so it really isn't that big of a deal. The real question is what are you blending it with. If you haven't determined the front stage and amplification all this sub talk is useless and you surely can't talk about an SQ advantage between setups. If either setup can overpower your fronts (which I am sure both) could either will be fine and I would choose the lesser setup to save dough for the front stage.

Going up for Christmas #2 K is one of 11 children so it is a frickin' shitpile of people at this one.

Sound advice
If you truly want SQ you should shop for your sub last as it will be the least important part of your install.

Sundown 100.4 with Morel Supremo Tweeters
You can throw anything at them, but the more you throw at them the higher you have to cross them over. Always, always start really conservative with new drivers and slowly turn things up. Many reasons why this is the best way.

Welcome to the IHoP
i'm fine now. wasn't yesterday. just some shit in the personal life but it's squashed. i wasn't going to say anything at first, so i posted that. after some thought, i decided to be me, and let those responsible know about it. and i did. and i feel much better. you bought the red one, didn't u? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Neither, I haven't found one of either color for sale that is right yet. They are either 2 yrs old and brand new (read $1k too much), or only have 300-400 miles which doesn't depreciate them enough. The other extreme exists too, I am not interested in one that has 6k miles.

my SQ boxx
Start high and work your way back. Start with 24dB slopes and ridiculous cross points and work your way in. It will take you hours to dial them in right, maybe days.

Building my first ported box
Ha, just saw this. I am picky about everything. Just one of those assholes... He meant 2" legs, as for the height on the front you can go even higher as the seat can "rest" on your box as well.

Alpine 9887 vs Pioneer 980BT
If you are comparing the 9887, 7100, you really should throw in the Pio 880prs. I'd take the Pio then, but otherwise either the Alpine or Eclipse will be fine.

xover for bullet tweeters
The only way you are going to get a high slope is to use an active crossover, otherwise building a passive to do that will require a lot of components and end up costing as much as the active one anyways.
