1/4, 1/2, whatever that isn't right. Set your gains with a DMM and a test tone cd. You can also do it by ear, but since that's what you basically did above my recommendation is to use a DMM. Hard to be of any other help, since you never told us if the noise went away when you turned down your gains...

I started to do the wiring, but 1) it started to rain, 2) friggin' too many wires for dual 12 to go through drivers door thingee, 3) arsehole beyotches I bought my satellite carriage through sent me a bad antenna, 4) most importantly it is Saturday night Have to help one of my homies move tomorrow to, so I won't have a lot of time to do much but I have to get the interior back in so the M can go back in the garage. Turn your gains down....you really, really, really shouldn't run them at full level unless you like the sound of distortion and the smell of burning voice coils.

Your "common sense" isn't right. It is very possible and HIGHLY encouraged to get loud in your car while trying to be as quiet as possible outside. My car has more than 60dB transmission loss from the interior to the exterior which means that at 140db inside the car it will be at pretty normal conversation levels outside. My system isn't super loud, but it will get louder than I will ever listen to it and you can't hardly hear it outside at all which is the way it is supposed to be.

You guys cover the "breathers" when you deaden? I've never deadened a truck before and instead of breathing into the trunk these breath outside. I am sure they are large source of noise that I want to elimate, but not sure if there are any negative ramifications of closing them off completely. I could just cover them with some acoustic insulation, but I could also seal them with mat. What to do....
