  1. Been setting gain for 3 years with a DMM. Haven't ran into a problem yet. Don't worry. You'll get a hang for things
  2. Wait, seriously? The Q is Fi's sound quality woofer. If you're going for SPL, I would highly suggest using different woofers.
  3. I didn't particularly enjoy how it now uses our Profile Picture rather than our Avatar
  4. Happy birthday bro!
  5. I would rather have the 15" XCON. It is less cone area ( 80% of the two Skars), but it's a much more capable subwoofer. Capable is a horrible term, but you know what I mean. It should be easier to get loud. The XCON was just an example. From what I've heard from numerous, numerous people: the XCON can get impressively loud without sacrificing a lot of sound quality. It's a decent balance; more on the loud side. I must say though that I've never ran an XCON. I don't think I've seen anyone that has used them and be disappointing by its capability though. The problem with this scheme though is that in order for it to fit in the budget, you're relying on finding a used XCON of a certain size with a certain coil option. That could take some time to find. It could take a week, or a month or two. Sometimes people get impatient and just want to get something in their truck. That's usually a bad idea, especially if you're on a budget like this. There are plenty of other options for subwoofers. But with your friends budget, and his goal, I would suggest looking into used woofers. SSA XCONS, Fi BL or Fi BTL, Sundown Z's, Incriminator Death Penalty, Ascendant Audio Havoc. Those are all woofers that come to mind for this build. That is, if you do a single 15". Even if used, two of those 12''s would cost too much for the budget. That's just my opinion though. Take it for what it's worth (probably not a lot).
  6. When I'm driving in anything with 4 wheels, I'm always really cautious about speed. I do about 3mph over speed limit but that's it (unless something hooligan-esque is happening). But whenever I'm on the Buell, I feel impervious to speed limits. It's very foolish, I admit. Maybe it's from all those years on the dirt bike when I could go as fast as I pleased.
  7. Those amps do look nice. Ditto. But why not make two areas for control to maximize convenience ? Top and on the ends like traditional amplifiers. That's what I would like.
  8. What I would try for: Find a used SSA XCON 15" or and 18" if it will fit his vehicle. A few months ago when the new ZCON came out, the XCON's were for sale here like hotcakes. Usually they can be had for around $300. Then, for an amplifier, I would purchase this: http://www.db-r.com/sell/store2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_67_69_105&products_id=248 That puts him at $550 roughly. Add wiring. Does he have a head unit already?
  9. With his budget he is probably going to want to avoid anything more than 1500 watts for Amplifier. Otherwise he will drown money in electrical upgrades and have nothing left for the rest. The key with electrical upgrades is to keep it simple and try your system without any upgrades at first and then add them if necessary. That being said, since the big 3 cost very little, I would heavily suggest doing that no matter what.
  10. Them are fightin' words 'round this county haha I haven't heard either singers live or since their studio albums. That's unfortunate though about DLR
  11. I want to see if I over payed for my Pro's! That was a long time ago thou...
  12. Was David Lee Roth singing? Glad you had a fun night!
  13. Eh. Sounds like you did my schoolwork for me I don't find it that bad really. It can be hard to wrap my head around sometimes
  14. That box is considerably too small. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/index.php/product-information/icon.html Go to that page. Scroll down. Check out "Enclosure Recommendations" tab and "Pre-Designed Enclosures" tab

  18. ICONS are rated at 1250 watts. So no.
  19. hahaha Kyle, i see you beat me to the Sundown Z V.2 post
  20. Toolbar isn't slowing me down
  21. That would depend, first and most foremost, what he determines as "blow". From the topic, I would assume he is claiming that his BTL is surely louder than a ZCON. Do you know what BTL he has? First Generation (triple stacked circular magnets), 2nd generation (big UFO shaped magnet), or which one of the newest BTL? Again, I don't have any first-hand experience with the ZCON. I owned a 2nd generation 18" BTL for a year. Obviously I can't say which is louder, but if I understand correctly, which i may not, the ZCON is a competitor with the musical variants of the BTL. Meaning: it would come down to installation details to determine which would be louder.
  22. C'mon man. You've been here long enough to know that questions like this are never, ever going to stop. Unfortunately, I've never had any experiences with the ZCON line. But everybody I know that has purchased a ZCON hasn't been disappointed. I guess an appropriate question to ask would be what are you expecting from it? What experience have you had in car audio? The ZCON is an extremely capable subwoofer.
  23. Do you mean potential loudness? Some of us get confused easy; so being clear always help! wtf kinda post is that?
