Posted August 7, 200718 yr Well Ive wanted an oscope for a while now and crt scopes are a little out of the price range even used ones.Im wondering if the hand held ones with the lcd screens would have enough resolution to see a clipping sine wave. Ive seen the video how the were showing how bass boost is bad but cant really tell how good the resolution of the lcd screen due to video quality.Ive used crt scopes in electronic classes and wondering how lcd compares to crtSo who here has used the lcd scopes and are they sufficient enough for car audio. I used crt scopes in electronic classesHeres what im looking athttp://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=320-290
August 7, 200718 yr I just bought the special edition version of that o'scope and I definitely recommend it. Here's a pic of the resolution of the sine wave just before clipping. You can definitely see clipping and because it has the 'auto' function, it'll get the screen and time division just right to clearly represent what you're monitoring.that's the version that I gothttp://cgi.ebay.com/Velleman-HPS10SE-10mhz...tem330153707895-John
August 7, 200718 yr Author That was quick thanks What was the difference between the se and regular is it just the back light.thats a good price on it also wish I did eBay but I stay away from it and there is a couple other things I want at parts express.
August 7, 200718 yr I think the main difference is the SE has a cool little carrying case, the regular doesn't.
August 7, 200718 yr I think the main difference is the SE has a cool little carrying case, the regular doesn't.actually the one I got has a lot more functionalityfind an up close of both and you'll see the difference in buttons. The HPS10SE is comparable to the HPS40 cause they share an instruction manual. It's definitely worth the small price difference to get the SE.-John
August 7, 200718 yr Psst, the 10 and the 40 both share a manual. I've got one in my lap here, the 10SE and the 10 are basically the same thing.
August 7, 200718 yr Psst, the 10 and the 40 both share a manual. I've got one in my lap here, the 10SE and the 10 are basically the same thing.SE has .1mv sensitivity and 10mhz sampling rateHPS5 has .5mv and 5mhzAlso the SE has the x10probe, you have to get that extra through parts express...I'm just saying if the HPS10SE is cheaper and better, why wouldn't you get it? (I paid $167.53 shipped)-John Edited August 7, 200718 yr by ILuvJDM
August 7, 200718 yr Same as the HPS10, but with blue LCD, white backlight. Comes in a rigid carry case.http://www.vellemanusa.com/us/enu/product/view/?id=521603Straight from the Velleman website. -Ryan
August 7, 200718 yr Author ^ hes faster then me. Yeah went and did some research they are the same except for the back light which would be nice but would also drain the battey faster. It is cheaper on ebay but I dont buy any thing from ebay even if it if a little cheaper just something Ive got against ebay and fear getting screwed.

I just bought one and you don't have to worry, plus the price is great. I think the seller has like 8000+ replies and is a power seller, basically like buying from a business online.-John
August 7, 200718 yr Well for some reason they raised the price and that's why I couldn't find the listing. It's now $199, I paid $155http://cgi.ebay.com/HPS10SE-PERSONAL-SCOPE...tem180145318807sorry about making you think it was cheaper...They also have the regular version for $175 shippedhttp://cgi.ebay.com/VELLEMAN-HPS10-PERSONA...tem180145211968-John Edited August 7, 200718 yr by ILuvJDM
August 7, 200718 yr IIRC, the main diffrence between the hps10 and hps10se is the backlight and the carry case.
August 7, 200718 yr It doesn't matter which one he gets, any of them will be accurate enough for what hes doing. Whatever error they have will be good enough for audio and setting gains, its not like hes doing digital circuity work.
