SAE-1500D Prototype - $200 shipped in the continental USA

SOLD to fuzzyping!

The heatsink on the prototype is not the heatsink that will be used for production and is one of two prototypes made in this case. This prototype does not make full rated power, but is good for around 1000 watts RMS @ 12.8 volts / 1200 watts RMS @ 14.4 volts into a 1 ohm load per my testing. The next revision of this prototype is under construction and will address the low power output as production models will easily meet their 1500 watt rating @ 13.8 volts (as all SAE amps are to be rated).

This unit has 4 awg input terminals and 3x 40 amp fuses.

Unnamed Prototype - $250 shipped in the continental USA

This prototype is good for around 1400 watts @ 12.8 volts / 1600 watts @ 14.4 volts into a 1 ohm load per my testing. This model will likely never reach production at Sundown Audio. It does have a "hum" sound at idle emanating from the power supply due to low duty cycle, this wouldn't be noticed in a trunk at all and does quiet down when the amp is presented with a load.

This unit has 1/0 input terminals and no internal fusing.

These protos are sold with no warranty other than a non-DOA guarantee. I just finished re-testing them and they work fine.

I am clearing out space here for new products coming in, so these need to go!

Jake, you still have mine correct?

Yep, yours is #1 of 2 of the SAE-1500D prototypes made in that casing. This one has a silk screen of the part number and yours does not, if you recall :) The unit in this thread is #2 of 2 in that case.

Sounds like the SAE-1500D would be a nice fit for a pair of RL-i8s? Same output as a SAE-1000D minus the warranty?

Yep, that prototype does roughly the same power as the current SAE-1000D.

Just to drive it home... the production SAE-1500D *will* meet power ratings no problem :) This is a prototype and improvements are being made as we speak.

Yeah, I hear ya.

Just curious, what's the difference between the SAZ-1500D and the upcoming SAE-1500D? Is the SAE class A/B?

I think it is just more of an extry level. Will put out 1500Watts rather then underrated. It likely will not be able to handle 1/2 ohm either.

That doesn't sound right, considering the production SAE-1000D is rated down to 1 ohm, and Jacob even said the prototype has been tested to 1 ohm.

Not to be a nag, but how do you think the SAE-1500D proto would compare in my current scenario? I have a SAX-100.2 bridged @ 8 ohms to a RL-i8 D4. I estimate the sub is probably getting around 200 RMS.

Thanks!

The SAZ-1500D does power @ 12.8 volts, the SAE does power @ 13.8 volts.

The SAZ-1500D can be used for 16 volt electrical systems.

The SAZ-1500D is made to be stable at lower loads for competition.

The SAE-1500D is also made in a different factory.

It would be louder... even @ 2 ohms you have double the power on tap.

Hmm... yeah, louder is good. ;)

How much for shipping to 21158?

Oops, nm... I just saw shipping is included. Sold! Where do I send payment?

Sorry for the confusion, by 1/2 Ohm I meant .5 Ohm.

Oops, my bad. I should have known that's what you meant.

The nameless proto is still for sale!

I would've gotten that one instead, but the hum would be audible in my 4Runner.

Jacob, you rock! Just got my UPS notification for the shipment. :D

Indeed, I normally ship stuff same day if it is ordered before 3 PM :)

I can't believe that nobody has bought the unnamed proto!

Someone buy it because I don't have a need for it, but it's damn tempting haha.
