In my dorm under the desk was the absolute worst spot for the woofer, it was loud in the corner of the door and that was it. I also tried it as a coffee table/foot rest, that didn't work either, absolutely no output. The only place I could get respectable output was corner loaded by my futon.

Oh and brace the box more than you think in necessary. Otherwise the box will 'walk' across the floor.

It is just one of those things your going to have to try it multiple spots before you will find the sweet spot. I tried about a half dozen spots before I found something I could live with, and I still wasn't entirely happy with it.

Be sure to post pics of when you get it installed though.

The box is built, it just needs to have the wood putty sanded down and then it's all set for paint. Pics of the build when I get the camera tomorrow. Total time sanding thus far = 3 hours (I, apparently, suck with a circular saw and drawing accurate size lines).

Looks like a nice set up.

3 hours of my least favorite building activity. Bummer.

is that a glossy paint finish? i thought rustoleum was a matte finish paint...

cant wait to see it in your room, might have to build me something like that myself i should probably build speakers first though...

It is a bit glossy, but then again I was half expecting/wanting it to be, so I like it. It's been in my room for a few days, but I haven't gotten around to stealing the camera back from my mom though. I'll try and snap some pics of it this weekend.

P.S. I took your advice topgun, and cornerloading is definitely the way to go

Now you just have to find and eliminate the most annoying rattles in the room.... What I found to be the biggest pain in the ass. I ended up taking my ceiling tiles out and stacking them due to the fact they rattled to much.

Not to damp or dampen your fun but you might receive some complaints if your system is too loud. Also, this advertises to thieves just as playing a car stereo loudly near where you live. No criticism intended...

If you don't get a noise complaint in college, your doing something wrong...

Plus, its a college dorm, everyone I've been is has NOT been quiet, they've all been loud, rowdy, and lots of people had loud stereos.

Also, on the issue of theft, keep the door locked whenever your not in the room and you won't have a problem, when people get stuff stolen out of dorms it is because they leave the door open/unlocked.

*you can always turn something that is to loud down to a lower volume, its a lot harder to turn something that isn't loud enough up to a higher volume*

Concrete ceilings...this building was meant to double as a minimum security women's prison if the college should fail.

My roommate and I both always lock the door, so I'm not worried about it. I've already had an RA (resident assistant) tell me to turn it down...but that's just because it was 11 pm (past quiet hours).

Overall, I'm very pleased with the sub. The SQ on it is rather good, and it's quite a bit louder than expected/necessary. I wouldn't have it any other way.
