So, I see that tons of people all apply different things to their BTL's. Assuming they are the fully loaded BTL's, I gotta ask, how much power R U applying to yours? Just curious to see how much various people apply. Also, are these daily driver vehicles?

I was giving them 4k each, daily, I have the amps turned down till I get my charging system up, but a memphis 4k each. Check out the vids in the tech section under 4 btl box.

i have 2 soundstream 6500 running on 4 15 btl's the amps are at 2.8 ohms for every day use

used to be 3100rms at 2 ohms on a single 18..

soon will be 2 sundown 1500s strapped at 2ohms for about 3400+

daily driven

I have no idea how people blow BTLs... I'll be honest.

We had two 1500Ds strapped on one WIDE open... for like 2 hours at the ROE roundup... and it was showing no signs of strain at all.

If you run 3kw at a reasonable load (eg: not 0.35 per amp) like 2 ohms... it would take some serious, serious, abuse to hurt it.

^I agree, but I can tell you- they clip the bejeezus out of their amps. They either crank the bass boost all the way up, or have a fully stock charging system trying to put out a few thousand watts :( Too many people mess up really good subs by not being careful. Then 'why is my sub hot, I'm only giving it 2000 watts'...

What is a really good amp to put on them? Memphis Mojo or RF4000.1?

depends probably. i have no experience with BTL's yet but considering you will get a good box rise anyways, i would get about a 4k amp on one. after rise it will probably be in the range of 2.5-3k which seems to be a good ammount. i mean i see a lot of people just ecstatic with the sub using a 2.5kw rms amp. so after rise they are seeing a lot less than that and are still stoked.

"Only" (lol!) 2K watts on my 18. I had a BL, but it got a little smelly when I (inevitably) cranked it too much. I probably didn't need all the options on the btl, but better to be safe than sorry, right?

  • 1 month later...

When I get them (hopefully soon), I will run an IA 40.1 on each sub @ 1 ohm.

This is good information! The BTLs are tough tough subs, it would seem. :)

well, if you go with the RF t4000.1bd, it will test around and probably at least 5k watts, which helps with the power loss part to get closer to that 4k. Steve Meade runs all fosgate amps all the time, slaps the crap out of this subs all day long with over 5 k a sub....so between the memphis amp and the RF i'd say RF anyday no question about it, but i have heard good things about the sundown audio's.

speaking of...what is their strongpoint compared to RF??

more efficient?

are they underrated at all??

low distortion??

j/w seems a lot of ppl use them on here

I had a soundstream xxx-6500 on a single 18 @1 ohm about 4,000 rms, and it took it fine. in fact i used this same sub @ a local comp with the gain opened and the sub never even broke a sweat. The sub belongs to my nephew, i just borrowed it for a few days. fi makes one of the most abuse tolerant subs i have ever played with. If you look in the general section there is a thread called fi demo in Hawaii, scroll down and you will see a video of my car taken on the day of the competition. its the ugly red hatch the install was done in 2 days so i apologize for the messy install, and the but ugly wall. oh on a side note, i also had a chance to change the ports and tune low to see if the sub could take 4000 watts @ 30hz, and it took it like a champ. I did set the gain on my amp with a scope so of course there was no clipping going to the sub. the car took first place in its perspective class. hope this helps, aloha.
