im gonna get 2 fully loaded and heard that the spiders rip and tinsel leads always break... is this true? can the BTL handle 3,000 watts?? will they last long or are they gonna chit out on me after a while?

any advice?? thanx

If you're sensible with it, they'll last you forever.

Sure, there may be a couple failures out there that are manufacturing glitches, but the overwhelming majority of failures you see on here are because someone was "bumping" or "street beating" or "ground pounding" or whatever the term for it is now and got stupid with the volume knob. Or just didn't know how to set it up in the first place.

But people's stupidity isn't the fault of the speaker...

During the 12 Challenge, the only way we could get the BTL to break was to literally unload it below tuning with 10kW on it...I still shake my head at people that destroy them in non-competition environments, that never should happen unless you're trying for it.

so i cant have the subs playing for too long i take it? even with 3,000 watts a piece i cant have them bumping while im cruising?

10kw, that is simply... nuts!
That's Sundown :P

They'll be fine as long as you know what you're doing. But honestly, cruising around with an actual 6kW in output is going to make you deaf shortly. Have you sat in a vehicle like that for a length of time, and tried to do a complicated task like driving?

Lol, silly Jim.

Just cause they have 6000rms, doesn't make them loud.

Let's see. . .

I have run mine multiple times 15-20 minutes at full volume.

I burped mine 10+ times Saturday night full power, 42 Hz all within 20 minutes. . .

My subsonic filter is set to prevent mechanical damage, and I know the limit of what it can take before it is stressed thermally.

oh ok so i should be fine then.. i wont have no melting tinsel leads or nothing will i? what is ur filter set to?

I dont mean to threadjack here but i wanted to ask, how safe is it running the btl's daily, if you throw 2000 watts on one and cruise around for four hours will it do alright, will it get real hot given you have the proper electrical and its in a proper box with the ssf set one octave below tuning?

oh ok im thinkin about having team toxic bass build my box.. u think they do pretty good work because no one around colorado in my area has even heard of fi car audio so they wouldnt know how to build the box

I hope they do alright, or mine are not going to last long. . . . :D

does the owners manual come with options for what the box should be built to?

I think some of the terms TTB throws around are ridiculous...and there's nothing proprietary about what they're doing...but the craftsmanship I've seen from there has been solid.

They don't need to have heard of the sub or not, Fi's recommended enclosure specs are listed in the Technical subforum here, just have them use those and you'll be fine.

so all the shop needs to know is what to tune the box to right?? and they should know what it means when it says use 12-16 square inches of vent per cubic foot of volume... cuz i dont know what that means. what all do they have to know to build me a good box?

If you have a 1 cubic foot box then your port should be anywhere from 12 to 16 square inches in cross sectional area...

So 12 square inches would be a port 3" by 4", a 16 Square inch port would be 4" by 4".

Just multiply them accordingly to the enclosure size that you intend on using...

Thanks!
