im not sure if my sub is in need for a recone or not, but there was smoke and the dreaded smell. The weird thing is the coils measure at 1.7 ohms on one side and 1.5 on the other. I looked at em and they seem to be a lil burnt. The sub still plays but its not as loud as it was and theres distortion on certain low and higher-mid notes.

Iv not yet gotten to finish upgrading my electrical, been waiting on batteries, then gotta order a ho alt.

Big 3 is done tho.

amp is a Powerbass Xa-3000D "internals still look new"

gains were set all the way down most of the time, then at 1/4 and last at half. No multimeter used, I know its all my fault, shouldnt of went that high on gains... LOL

so im guessing its b\c a clipped signal might have messed it up?

Your DMM is reading DC impedance so i wouldn't worry too much. They normally are +/- 0.3 Ohms

If the coating on the coil is slighly darker i'd say you need to turn those gains down and have them setup on a scope.

so should I get a recone for it because I turned the gain down and it still distorts.

I got about 1.3V when up loud and distorting. The coils on the sub are pretty burnt looking too.

ne body? amp gets warm and so does dustcap on sub, not even playing longer than 10 mins.

Sound comes out of the amp as AC, alternating current. For example, if you examine a 60 Hz sine wave on an oscilloscope, you will notice the voltage running from -x to +x, 60 times per second, where x is any given voltage. DC on the other hand, for the most part looks like a straight line, it isn't alternating from positive x to negative x.

Would the pbx amp look bad internally if it was dieing? It still looks brand new.

The sub coils have a darker redish tint look to it, and I found a spot where the coils look to be scraped up, to the point where they look disconnected from each other. You can sorta see some silver in there too.

IMMEDIATELY remove the sub from the amp and get a new amp... if you continue to use the amp YOU WILL need a new sub.....

Once you put the sub on a new amp and things sound distorted then inquire about a recone..

I hope you know sending DC volts to the subs WILL end up with an outcome of you replacing the amp AND sub costing you more money... remove the amp immediately...

in the future, if you have no upgraded electrical yet, dont let the lights dim until you get an upgrade.
