July 26, 201114 yr I like flowers so I won't clutter up the manly thread too much :-D BTW I'll be happy to take any tips, especially on why my pics get the weird artifacts once i upload them, the originals on my comp do not have the crap)I love V but i hate roses
July 26, 201114 yr Your pictures look really good. I'm not seeing anything strange on them from my computer btw
July 27, 201114 yr @vladd Try shooting a few f-stops bigger. Your depth of field is very shallow, most of the photo is out of focus. I feel somewhat "lost" when I look at the photos you posted because the focus point is hard to determine. The exif data is unavailable for your images so I am unable to tell you exactly what f-stop to try. I am guessing you shot most of these around the 35-55mm range unless you cropped them. Your lens has nice brokeh which makes me think you are shooting wide open at f1.8? Prime lens? What are you shooting with? I do not know what artifacts you are speaking of. Try a different photo host like photobucket or flickr and look to see if things are better. I have not spent much time photographing flowers. I would like to get out more to do so.

I would like to get out more to do so.Well I am on a different computer today and none of the "artifacts" are present so it must have just been a resolution issue on the laptop I usually use. I am using a set of magnifiers off ebay on the end of a canon Rebel xTi and most shots I use a 28-105mm canon lens (but i believe this is a 35mm lens, can't remember honestly) . So yes most shots probably are in the 35-55 range. I usually take multiple steps on the focus and use Helicon focus to bring them all in to focus but recently I've been lazy and simply have 30 of the same shots saved (i picked random ones to upload too...super lazy)I have almost no experience with photography btw, i am a biolgist so my focal points are usually not photographically relevant either. I will try a little higher f-stop and see if I can get any more depth of field as well. As of now I understand most of the terminology but I can never equate it to the shot when I'm taking it (or reviewing it). Here's a few more and I'll try to maintain the exif data for you as well....so long as photobucket doesn't swipe it.pps i never crop my images, only because I hate the idea of losing any information.
August 30, 201114 yr Just recently purchased a Sony Alpha 580 and loving it... Here is me trying to be artsy ... I'm not sure why some came out smaller than others... I did upload the same way and copied the image location the same as well.... Edited August 30, 201114 yr by Shogen
