Hi everyone. I'm a new guy here on your forum. I'm going to need some help from any REAL GOOD box designers here.

I just bought (waiting for it to be shipped to me) a 15" Kicker L5 and i'm going to power it with a Hifonics BXI1206D amp. I'm currently driving a '01 Expedition and i took out the 3rd row seat so i have A LOT of space to use here. I'd like to go with a vented box, something that will give me some pounding bass but clean.

This is what i'll be using:

JVC KD-AVX2 headunit

(2) audiovox headrest monitors

DLS 5 1/4 component speakers (front)

DLS 5 1/4 speakers (rear)

HIFONICS BXi1206D - for sub

HIFONICS ZXI6406 - for front and rear speakers

KICKER L5 15" DVC 4ohm

I went over my measurements and It comes out to a width of 49", height of 19" and depth of 23 1/2". I am a member of another forum which the guys there are great, in fact one of the guys over there designed a box for me and i know that it'll slam but i wanted to make some changes to the height and he's got a small problem right now and he can't help me out as of the moment.

i would like to use the whole 49" width for the box but not the max height of 19". I'd like to be somewhere around 14" height if possible. Also in the previous design i had, the sub was firing up and the port firing to the rear so i would like it to be the same.

I hope there are some really good box designers here on this forum. I'm more than willing to pay for the design as long as i have the cut sheets. Hope you all can help me out. You can either PM me or email me at [email protected]

thanks everyone!

how much airspace to those like to work in ported?

what tuning are you looking for?

tuning at 33hz. According to kicker they can be in a box up to 6 cubes. the previous design was for 5 cubes.

dude...

Go to Re audio website, and check out the box design section. plug and play with your measurements until you find something you like, should not take too long, the tune the port to whatever freq. you want... I'd guess around 32 Hz.

thanks man, gotta link to that? i checking out the site now but I can't find the box design section. Damn, i feel pretty dumb now, I can't even find the box design section. lol

Edit: I found it! geez, it was right in front of my face. lol

ust wondering if anybody would know if this would be ok for my kicker L5 15". I'm just trying to learn.

box width: 49"

Box height: 14"

Box depth: 20"

Port width: 6"

Port length: 6"

Box volume: 5.03 cu ft.

tuned Freq: 33.135hz

Would i get any port noise with this?

looks about right to me, as far as port noise...? I have never disliked "vented" boxes, its those actual round ports that seem to bother me. If your concerned, round the edges on the inside and opening of the port.

I dont see where you get 5 cubes from those dimensions. Is that for a slot port or round?

If round then after all displacements I got 6.02 ft^3 @ 34.91 Hz.

that's for a slot port. I actually got that off of the RE audio enclosure calculator. I'll give you the whole breakdown.

box width: 49"

box height: 14"

box Depth: 20"

wood thickness: 0.75"

square port height: 12.5"

square port width: 6"

square port length 2: 6.0"

total port length: 29"

square port area: 75

Square port volume internal: 2175

box volume (ft3): 5.09

tuned frequency (Fb): 33.135

I cringe at the sound of people mentioning REs calculator. I dont find it to be really accurate to other things ive seen. Here is an example of just a few problems I have with it. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...c=14119&hl=

As for the dimensions that you used I got, after all displacements including sub, 5.03 Ft^3 @ 34.81Hz.

I'm new to the ported designs.. In other words, i really have no idea what i'm doing. I'm really just trying to llearn. I need to make a vented box. I want it to be 5 cu ft. tuned at about 33hz with the sub firing up. the max height can only be 14" but I have a huge width to play with of 49" as far as depth goes, i have a big area in the back of my expy so i guess up to 25" would be ok.

Somebody on this forum recommended the Re calculator and i was TRYING to design something there. Obviously i wasn't doing it right. could you throw some help my way?

nucell01, if you don't mind me asking, why are you stressing ported? I am not saying its bad at all, just wondering since you said you were new to ported and you have very nice door speakers.

Well, I have a sealed box right now and since I just got my L5 i thought i would try a ported box, if i don't like it then i'll just make another sealed box.

For the most part, i just want to try it out.

At least your making an effort to learn. I find the best way is to use a pencil and paper or modify that and put the formulas in excel. Heres a link to formulas and method of pencil and paper. http://www.realmofexcursion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22850

Since your making an effort to learn you can either try to design on on your own or try this one.

after all displacements its 4.99 ft^3 @ 33.01 Hz with 15.03 in^2 per ft^3 of port area.

WOW!!! Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the design. Thanks for the link too. I'm going to go over that and really try to learn how to design.

Thanks again.
