September 18, 200420 yr I don't know the exact workings of a snailshell box, but if you saw the video with the audiobahn 6.5s, its not the same thing. It is a form of ported box where the port goes diagnal and goes from big to small. I think they are a waste of money IMO. Just make your own ported box. It should be all you need.

September 18, 200420 yr Well, 400 bucks for a box is just obsurd. Also, if they work so well, why don't all of the SPL competitors use them? And building one is a real female dog to get that angle of the board perfectly right. I just say do a ported box w/ lots of port area and you should be good.Let me restate my above post also, That wasn't a snailshell for those 6.5s. It was some crazy huge box that almost nobody knows how to design. If you wanted one for a 12 it would be fhuge. You could probably do a blowthrough and fit it in the entire back end of a truck.
September 18, 200420 yr My .02 bits...I've been slowly studying up on TL's and SS enclosures for a couple months. I figure, there has got to be a scientific way to get the effeciency of the driver up over 5%. In the end we talking about electrical components -> soundwaves. Its in the physics, IMHO.That being said, I would imagine that with the right enclosure (SS, TL, Voight Pipe, etc) specifically engineered to maximize the back wave (possibly the front also as in 6th order BP) for acoustical gains. Or SPL. Using the 1/4 wave theory, parametric flow, T/S params to acct for electrical effeciency, etc... these theories are all great on paper and in 2D. Now, in real world exercise & testing... Who knows? Not me, not now. But the Idea, in Theory, Sounds good. And that statement sounds like fluff. LoLMore to the point, if the math is there in the SS designs, they may be hotter then the cats ass. Not gonna know till the plans go public or you buy one and try it.
September 18, 200420 yr I know many people who have NOT seen a difference that warrants a $400 price tag between a well designed ported enclosure and a 'snail shell' enclosure.I would never ... ever ... drop any more than what a sheet of MDF costs into my enclosure.- Steve

I'm staying away from this.oh no u ain't hehe...i gotta agree with 97drop on this...if they are so wonderful (i'm not saying they're not) why aren't big time competitors using them? size shouldn't be an issue because they would be able to drop a few woofers. so cost would be better as well..less wooferage to buy...but then again.....when all ur after is a 70hz fart..who care's about efficiency?$400??? yeah right.....not this tight ass..wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee <-- maybe soon?

September 20, 200420 yr I paid 150 once for a ported box locally, course i already had the designs set up for the guy who hppened to alter it a bit.
