Posted April 1, 200817 yr These aren't mine, but a friend got them in and needed some help moving them, and I had never heard Altecs this big before, so this is what I spent Monday doing...Note to self, don't drink beer and install horn throats...They're mid 1950's Voice of the Theaters, they're actually a set of three of them, we just ran out of room to aim them Gets painfully loud with under 3 watts of power...most comfortable listening was done with power levels in the fractions of a watt range.
April 1, 200817 yr Wow...how many bills did that cost??24ohm impedance I see...nice.I have no idea how compression drivers work.
April 1, 200817 yr Author Wow...how many bills did that cost??He got them for a steal. $2500 for all three, including cross-country freight.Just the woofers alone would probably sell for $3k on Ebay...
April 1, 200817 yr I read an interview with Paul Klipsch in Speaker Builder Magazine. He ran his Klipschorns with 25w each. -Robert

April 1, 200817 yr but a friend got them in and needed some help moving themI don't see what the problem is Impressive ...
April 2, 200817 yr DAMN! What would be an estimated sensitivity rating on those? I'd assume pretty high since 3 watts was "loud"!
April 2, 200817 yr lol, yea for 4th of july or any other random weekend i could see a nice lawn party goin down/block party, lol
April 2, 200817 yr Wow I haven't seen an original voice of the theatre since forever!Very nice find for your friend. Does everything work still?
April 2, 200817 yr Author Are those full rangers?? How low do they play??Midbass is all there, but they sound like they drop off getting into subbass...probably strong down to 50Hz or so. DAMN! What would be an estimated sensitivity rating on those? The compression drivers are rated at 115dB/W, the midbasses are somewhere just over 100dB/W together...Sonic Impact T-Amp?A T-amp would be more power than they need Does everything work still? It sounds like one of the original horn diaphragms needs to be redone, but heck, after close to 60 years having 2/3 working is pretty good.
April 2, 200817 yr Author So where are those going to be put? In a house? In a big house I really don't know how big of a listening room someone would need to fully appreciate these. We were standing out in the middle of the road, and they kept sounding better Of course, then we could hear the echoes of the sound bouncing off neighbors' houses...whoops
