ok my buddy is installing my 100.4 and my 32 6.5" coaxials. they hooked up 16 of the 32 speakers in channel 1 and 2. they wired sets of 8 to 2 ohm. when they turned it on it seemed really quiet. but when they turn it up the amp goes into protect. any specific reason this might be happening????

That sounds like a really crazy inductive load - 8 speakers on one channel.

I would check for wiring errors - put a DMM on it and see what the DCR is.

yah i told them to recheck the wiring. supposibly with my fluke it reads 2 ohm. thats why i was confused. well after this summer im gonna buy 3 more 100.4's for it. but either way just because it has alot of speakers doesnt mean it should go into protect which is what confused me.

Indeed - could be something else. 2 ohms stereo is just like 4 ohms bridged, and 100s of people do that

What is this in? 32 Coaxials.

they are gonna recheck the wiring of 8 of them. then try a single channel and see if it does it again.

Has to be confusing wiring!

If it was quiet I would check phase very carefully too on each driver - even with almost no wattage that many should be really loud.

well i did a diagram for them to make it easier on them. but its alot easier to wire if u know exactly what u are doing. so i guess we will wait and see the outcome. will be much easier to wire when i buy my other 3 100.4's and 3 3000d's around aug/sept as long as u dont sell out of 3k's again

Grab a 9 volt battery and check the Phase. I am not sure how the wiring was ran but it would be easier to keep the speakers in phase by wiring pairs in series and then run 4 pairs of wire to one point rather than running continuous wiring.

thats exactly the diagram i did for them was. will find out shortly if it still does it. will keep updated.

problem fixed. not sure what it was but i think they said something about the ground for the rca's since im using the pioneer 7800mp was touching the inside of the rca or something. not sure if that was it or not.

i guess it has some serious bass/midbass because they are all enclosed in thier own box. and i guess scream. hope to get a video sometime. cant wait for 80watt+ per speakers

You mean they had to ground the RCA's because someone disconnected the RCA's while the HU was on and burned up the ground? Pioneer is famous for this little issue.

if thats the issue that gives it the hella engine noise/wine sure. i bought it used off a guy for 175 so i couldnt pass it up. i dont mind having to ground the rcas. the problem was actually just a couple loose wires touching echother so they have been taped and nothing. should be good. +1 for sundown.
