Ok i am obviously looking into a FI subwoofer but am confused and having difficulty choosing which one i should get. I heard the BL has more output but the Q hits lower. I want to push my sub at around 1000 wrms. I have a pontiac grand prix and want something that is gonna rumble and turn heads but be able to put out power. The main thing i want to do is put my friends to shame who think their 10" audiobahn is the stuff. Please help me decided. I need opinions. Thanks !!

i hope you also realize that the output of either of those products you are looking at is extremely enclosure dependant....

Since you used the word shame, the Q isn't for you.

Ok so i should got with a BL or BTL. Should i load a 15" BL or get a no option 15" BTL ?? Right now i will only be able to push it at 1500 wrms but am looking to upgrade in the future. Opinions??

The bl should sound better on music but the btl should get louder. It all depends on what you are looking for I guess.

Well i listen to alot of rap and hip-hop. Its gonna basically be a Daily application. I want to drive down the street and turn heads with the music i am listening to but if i want to crank it up against want of my friends i want the power to blow them away.

If you build a solid enclosure you should be able to meet your goals with a 12'' bl no problem.

yea i will definitely be building me own enclosure and it will be ported. I will also tune it. You think i should get a 12" instead of a 15". And do you think I should get P Chamber or Cooling option ??

This is the part that will bother a good number of people here at SSA, as we really strive to respect others around us and their right to not be forced to hear our music.

Compensating for a small one eh?

yep. the old 10" MTX Pro @ 200 wrms isn't cutting it any more, now that i have a job. Looking for that big BOOM !!

I actually was inferring you were compensating for a lack of manhood. Perhaps you should build a system for yourself, instead of one to try to puff your chest as you drive around on the streets. Childish antics like that are ridiculous and 100% stupid :(

Don't worry i'm not gonna be that annoying "kid with the system" that cranks it 24/7. I will have it up sometimes but mostly just showoff for friends, use at parties, or at comps.

ok well #1- i dont need to puff out my chest or need manhood

#2- i am not building a system just to annoy people

#3-i am gonna use it against friends, at parties, and comps (if i get into it)

#4- childhood antics- i am not building this b/c lots of people have subs. i actually enjoy putting together a system

You do realize that if you drive down the street trying to turn heads, it is because you are compensating for something...I see you have changed your statements which is great, I hope your actions follow your words. :) I don't mean to offend, but of course if your sole goal is to annoy then I do mean to offend.

Ok anyways, what do you guys think??

a 15" BL w/ options

or

a 15" BTL w/o options

yes i am changing my statement because i think u misunderstood me to be one of those annoying kids. I want to turn heads in a respectful manner not "bumping at 2 o'clock in the morning" manner. Turning heads of friends, at parties, or comps. I do enjoy car audio as a hobby not just to annoy.

If you can fit a 4+ cubic foot box in there go for a 15. Remember you have to account for displacement for the woofer and the port, which can easily be over a cubic foot if you tune in the low 30's. You have to realize you are going to get mixed opinions from different people on here on which driver to get. Just read about each one, make a decision, and enjoy!

ok well i am thinking about going with a 15" FI BL but dont know if i should get cooling option. If i get the 15" BL it says for a Ported box: 2.8-4 cuft @ 30-37Hz. I was thinkin a 3- 3.5 box. Do you think that would be sufficient. I dont want to go much bigger than that.

If you can fit the higher end of your range that would be great. If you plan to lean on the sub heavy daily, for longer periods of time with the gains on your amp up, cooling would be worth the few extra dollars. If you plan to send it 1500+ watts, for handling reasons, it would be worth the flatwound coil option. The BL can get very loud in a daily install (and competitions too). I would suggest getting a little sound deadening to get more out of the output of the driver and less lost in the vibration of body panels of the car. A few dollars spent on Second Skin Damplifier or Cascade V-Max or RAMMAT BXT will make a world of difference.

As from my experience with friends/competitors who have used the BL, the bigger the box you can go the better, and brace the walls of the box well, maybe even a double baffle, in addition give it some serious port area and tune it in the mid to low 30's. To also help in with your goals, I would suggest getting a pound or two of polyfill to put in the box to simulate larger interior air volume.

Forgot to mention that Fi suggests the P Chamfer option also.

Ok if am gonna push my sub at 1500 wrms in a box at 3.5 cuft. tuned @ 30"s hz. Should i go with the 12" or 15" BL and what options i know atleast the P chamber but what about the cooling. Thanks for the help !!

  • Admin

Based on your prior posts, I would vote for the 15" model with flat wound coil and P Chamfer. Also, for what you are after I would tune about 35hz. If you feel you are going to be beating on the sub woofer for long periods of time spend the extra on the cooling option, if not just get the other two options.

  • Author

Yea i was thinking the 15" also. I greatly appretiate the opinions. It was a great help.
