I just bought me a SAZ3000D and getting an odd 'problem' with it... everytime i turn if off, i have to wait around 2mins before i can turn it back on.. if i turn it on too soon, the protection mode keeps kicking in.. :huh2:

is this normal??

More info? What are your subs wired at? What does your electrical look like? What is your systems voltage at when it clicks into protect? Is there a short in the speaker wire perhaps?

my bad.. i have a 160A alternator with a stinger SPV70 battery.. power is not the problem as it happens at very low volumes...

i have two dual 4ohm subs wired to it, so that works down to a 1ohm load..

it happens both with the engine on and off...

on my 1st try, the amp will turn on and work like normal.. then if i take it off, it won't restart for at least 2 mins...

Why are you turning it on and off to begin with? Perhaps your remote voltage has sagged and won't turn it back on.

i just tried it again.. i counted to 30secs and it still wouldn't come back on.. then i counted to 60secs and it came on and worked like normal..

voltage at the amp is 12.7V with the engine off.. i'm using a relay to bring on all my amps.. voltage at the remote terminal read the same 12.7V when i just checked..

reason i turned it off and back on was when i turned off the deck to start the vehicle...

i have each of my 2ohm subs wired to a pair of the speaker terminals.. (as shown in the manual)

i just tried another set of speakers & wires, resistance at 2.66ohms (3 8-ohms spks in parallel), same thing happened..

using zero gauge wire for positive and ground.. 300A fuse near the battery..

using a standard RCA wire from my preamp to the amp..

i just disconnected all speakers and tried it again.. amp turned on like normal (i.e. protection light remained off).. then when i turned it off, i heard a click in the amp.. (internal amp relay?)

about 5 seconds later i turned it back on and didn't hear the amp's relay click on (if it has one..) and the protect light came on as usual.. when i turned it back off, i heard no click...

Could it be that an internal relay went bad in it??

i'm usin zero gauge stinger throughout

have a 160A alternator with 2gauge from alt to battery

stinger SPV70 battery (x1)

amp grounded in two places

did the 'big 3'

the problem occurs even with both speaker and RCA wires disconnected... you can see the protect light comin on still.. i have no idea what else to try..

Try to remove your external relay and go from deck straight to amp on the remote turn on lead... see if anything changes

i just jumpered the battery positive to the remote turn on lead.. exact same thing happening..

do those amps have an internal relay?? because everytime the protection mode comes on, i not hearing the click from the (amp's) relay when i turn it back off...

It does have an internal relay - but if that didn't work the amp wouldn't work at all as it is in the signal path. Sounds like you are just trying to turn it on and off too quick. I've never actually heard of this as an issue, though.

Does it really effect you at all ? If your amp comes on when you start the car and music plays I'm not sure why you would need to turn it off and back on in 30 seconds ? Any reason you turn off the deck to start the vehicle ?

Reason I ask about the deck... is perhaps the deck is sending a surge of signal into the amp or something.

the reason i turn off the deck is just for safety... i don't like it on when the starter is pulling a huge amout of current from the battery (i.e. battery voltage will drop low..)

twice today the amp refused to turn on at all, even after being off for a while.. i just kept going into the protection mode..

when it did turn on, i played it for about 10mins at low - medium volume without a problem..

i'll make a video to show exactly what it looks like.. i should have it up in about 1/2 an hour...

well the amp isn't working at all when the protect light comes on.. no output to the speakers.. and also i not hearing the relay click when the protect light comes on..

as the deck controls the relay, i doubt there would be a surge from the deck.. is a Pioneer 6000UB btw..

i had bypassed the relay and connected a batt positive wire directly to the remote turn on.. even with that the same problem occured..

Of course it won't play when protection is enabled - that is what protection is for :)

Have you ever tried starting the car normally with the deck on and allow it to turn on the amp normally? I've never once heard of a deck being damaged by being on when the car starts, they are designed to be in cars that are started normally.

Also, have you measured the remote and battery voltage when the amp is IN protect mode when it won't start ?

oh, i forgot to mention.. i'm from Trinidad, i bought it from Fen's son, Exonic on the Trinituner forums.. NOTE, this evening at 4:30pm, i went and got the amp exchanged.. the exchanged amp that i have now is doing the identical thing...

when it is in protect mode, the remote voltage reads the same as the battery voltage.. i checked that 3 separate times..

ha, just as i figured.. it went into protect mode when the vehicle started..

(i had the RCAs and the speakers disconnected when i started the vehicle.. only power and remote wires connected.. deck was on before i started..)

honestly, i don't mind the wait to get the amp to turn on.. but there are times when it refuses to turn on at all... and there must be a reason the protection circuit keeps getting activated..

i made another vid showing how i waited 30seconds exactly and the amp still refused to start normally.. but i won't bother to upload that.. you get the idea..

so, what's the diagnosis?? i really love the amp, for the breif time it worked, i really showed ALOT of potiential!

Since you exchanged the amp and the same thing is happening then you have something in your install that is not right. I would look for professional help from a local installer. The amps simply don't go into protect for no reason at all - especially not two in a row. Most especially since I have tested them all personally before they went to Trinidad.

Perhaps your power or ground wire has an intermittent short circuit. Try running some small wires straight from the battery just to turn the amp on.

It is a very strange problem for certain! I can't see why anything is different the second time you turn on the amp from the first time when it came right on with the head unit.

That is very odd. Also, Jacob, in my car, when the ign. switch is in the Start position, the switched power to the deck appears to be killed, ie. the deck turns off while in Start. This could be a problem if you're listening to your radio with the car off, then need to start it up. Not sure exactly how that works.
