So I just recently put in some new passive comps in my car powered by about 70 watts rms and they just arnt cutting it anymore right now i have an Alpine cda9886 and infinity kappa conponents and an mtx 2 channel. I want to go active the deck would probably be changed to the alpine cda 9887 and i would need a 4 channel amp (suggestions are very welcome) or a 5 channel(under 200 for the 4 channel or 400 for the 5 channel). I was looking at the mach5 Mli-65's in the door but i dont have any idea what tweeters to go with i dont like very harsh tweeters, and any other suggestions you guys would have would be so helpful.

Thanks, Brian

yeh they look like some awsome tweeters but they are way out of my price range unfortunatly the college life sucks money wise

I was a big slut for the aluminum dome Seas Prestige tweeter until I used the LPG aluminum. LPG seems a bit more "full bodied" and less "icy" but I'd give Neo the edge in overall detail. If you listen to less than clean music (MP3's) you might want to choose the LPG instead. It seems to be more forgiving in my install. There is no "perfect" or "amazing" driver in car audio, only really really good tuners and installers.

can't complain about my morels, check out madisound, mdt-29s

So is that 3 of us now with the MLI-SEAS Neo active combo? :)

i think that will be what im gunna end up doin i got a used set of MLI's and i think im gunna do the seas neo thanks for all your guys help oh and where do you guys have them crossed over at

when going active, do you run each tweet and midrange/midwoofer off its own channel on ur amp or do you use a 2-way crossover?

i'm not sure I know what you mean. By 2 way crossover do you mean a passive crossover in the speaker wires or a crossover in the signal chain? both can be 2 way crossovers, and both still need an amp. Active needs each speaker on its own channel.

ok...that answers my question...so how is doing it that way advantageous over using a component set with a passive x-over network? With components you can run a mid and tweet off one channel. Does going active minimize the output of your mids/highs since you cut the number of drivers you can run in half? Please feel free to educate me if i'm all f@#ked up.

no your number of drivers aren't cut in half. You just have to use more amplifier channels. So instead of using just a 2 channel for your fronts like you would with a passive crossover system, you use a 4 channel amplifier for the front stage.

Active is advantageous because you can control the crossover points as well as the power going to each driver. You can also decide the slope of the crossover if you choose to by buying a crossover suitable to your wants.
