I am looking at setting up a sub in my car. I have had systems in the past, but I'm used to just running subs from Crutchfield or Best Buy - just choose your size, amount of coils, and throw it in the car.

I am looking for a single sub that can handle a lot of power, but still be very clean. I'm not looking to go to any shows or SPL competitions, I just want to enjoy it in my daily driver. My problem is I'm ignorant on reading the specs for the subs on Fi's product page - I don't know what they mean by Fs, Re, Qms, Qes, etc. I have an Elemental Designs Nine.1 amp that I am going to use. It is rated 1200W x 1 @ 1 Ohm and 900W x 1 @ 2 Ohm. What sub would best fit my needs - something like a SSD12 or a Q12? If so, how would it set it up?

I have the same amp, and I have a Fi Q 12" with BP Power option, that amp is a pretty good power match to the Q line, I would recommend the BP power option with whatever size driver you want, build box to specs. 1200 Wrms is a bit much for a standard Q they are rated at 1000Wrms but with the BP option its a solid setup.

For that power, the Q would better suit your needs. You'll want the Dual 2 option.

You can see the selection on the www.ficaraudio.com website when you select the Q series. It adds a little bit more power handling to the sub, which will be necessary when your 1 ohm rated amp is pushing 1200 watts.

it's the impedance of the coils, one isn't better than the other, it's just which will suit your amp the best. your amp does its power at 1ohm, so that's why you want the dual 2.

yes, but it doesn't make much sense to do that

If you want a final 2 ohm load, then get the dual 1 option. But thats impractical. Get the dual 2 with BP to make it a final 1 ohm load and use your available 1200 watts you already have...
