After some time being away and such I'm getting ready to order an Amp and a BL 15".

I've been looking to buy a Kicker ZX1000.1 but I have yet to be able to understand the relation of ohms between amps and subs...I'm terrible at math.

The amp does 1000W RMS at 2 ohms so does that mean I would want the 1 ohm option with the BL?

--Thanks for any replies.

Yes, a dual 1 ohm BL will show the amp 2 ohms mono.

...but the Bl will be underpowered....

that depends on the box.

It will be fine.

Going in a '99 Limited Explorer with stock alternator...I have a 1.5 farad cap to add to it...so don't think I can do much more than 1k watts.

I would consider upgrading the power and ground wires, along with doing the big3 before you worry about a capacitor.

I won't be doing the install myself...at one point I was quite familiar with the Big 3 and was getting ready to do it on a Caddi Deville I owned at the time but it ended up not being able to pass inspections so it got junked.

That was about 3 years ago so it has escaped me by now...when I take my car in to get everything installed would getting the cables changed out be a common operation for audio shops?

I actually have about 10 feet of 1awg cable, a fuse holder, terminals for the battery and the terminals that you crimp onto the cables from when I was planning on doing it.

Not really. Just because he doesn't plan on pushing the BL to its FULL potential doesn't mean that he will be unsatisfied with a little bit less...

Since I plan on building my own box I have been messing with WinISD...Everything seems well except when I got to the Vent Mach, I understand what Vent Mach is but the entry field will not allow me to put anything in, all that is there is Qes/Pe! in red.

I may not have everything else correct, I wouldn't know if I did have it wrong....

If needed I can screen shot other things...thanks for any help.

Also, if I have the space available should I go with the largest in the range of recommended volumes for a box?

I'm really shootin in the dark here hehe...been reading stuff on google all day but any help is appreciated.

The larger you go with a ported box, the deeper it will sound and your lows will be stronger. Power handling goes down but its probably not going to be that big of a deal with 1000 watts. If I were you I would use all the space that you are willing to give up, but not exceeding the recommended ported specs.

You can't put anything in for vent mach because it's a product of things, not an input.
