During the session you will not be able to write anything down but may make a mental note of your questions then email the professor, no questions may be disputed at the session (the professor will not be there). Just to let you know copies of the exam have been made.

One time a kid snuck a pen into the viewing room to write something down. He hasn't been heard from since.

I think it's just out of laziness. The less people can remember about potential grading errors, the less graders have to go back and check.
