Picking a preamp was a pain in the ass for me too...just kind of stumbled on the one I ended up with, because the guy lived 10min from my folks' place :D

Look around for a NAD 3020 if you can...it's an integrated amp, but you can bypass the power amp section and just run it as a preamp if you want. Has a pretty decent MM phono stage for a built-in one, it was built when manufacturers actually gave two shits about the design of that.

Should find one for under $200 in excellent shape.

Looks like my toslink cable fell out of one of the connectors in the Spec... either from the deck, or the H701.

LOL.

Need to order a toslink w/90 degree ends.

If I run a sub off two channels of a GFA2535 how will I have the sub low passed? I don't believe my pre-amp will do the low-pass for me...

sidenote: would it be worth running a sub off 200W with a pair of BIB's? (probably a 4 inch driver)
