Hmm, got another hit on my CL WTB ad, '73 CB500 in supposedly excellent running condition, little low on mileage but we'll see...

Now just how much to lowball :P

great first scoot. i loved my 73 cb750k. easy to mod, easy to ride, though a little heavy and clumsy for the driving test if it's your first bike. though the 500 should be a bit lighter on it's feet. how much is he asking? in great shape, with that age, i'd expect somewhere in the $1200-1500 range.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

No shit?

What should I ask for an 82 CB750k with 8k miles. Upgraded tires, fairing or not (have both setups).

Things I learned from the 4th this year:

151 Makes a great lighter fluid for the grill

Beer cans don't blow up for shit

My friends are crazy

Don't try to light multiple smoke bombs in your hand at once when you've been drinking, it doesn't work to well

Some roman candles are not made to be used in a roman candle war

Starting drinking at 2pm and go till 3:30am with a half dozen shots back to back in the middle isn't advisable.

When you wake up the morning of the 5th and your ears are ringing, its the damn fireworks fault.

I need to make friends with people who have a pool because all my female friends want to go skinny dipping.

Lake > pool for skinny dipping

We have a place locally that used to be a cat fish farm. Now they have converted half of there ponds to shrimp ponds. THe shrimp are actually a vietnamese strain. They taste great. Just like getting them from the docks ( I have ). Two cervesa's mas fina , about the same amount of water. A 1/4 to half cup of old bay depending on how spicy you want it. Boil them , takes just a couple minutes. Then throw them on some ice to drain and stop cooking. Chill them, mix up your favorite dipping sauce. and enjoy. I make a cocktail sauce with chili sauce a tiny bit of ketchup. Horseradish, minced onion, lemon juice and a little bit of lime juice. IT's the chit :)

These the 5-8ct freshwaters? If so, we get some up here and they are indeed the bomb.

He says a lot's been replaced in the last 1000mi, runs smooth, but is asking $1850 :( Which seems really steep for a Honda built in 1973, no matter what the condition is...I've got $900 free and clear right now, $1200 seems like a doable offer in a couple weeks.

$1850 is a bit steep. he's banking on people wanting the better fuel mileage. $1200 sounds like a good offer, but $900 is roughly half his asking, and that's where i always start.

good luck with that jim, that is a good bike to start on.

I'm going tomorrow to check out an '81 CB750 custom that the owner is willing to come down to my price...I guess I'll hear it first-hand to see how it runs (owner says it runs very well, and from the pictures I've seen does look extremely clean), but are there any tips for looking one over to be more sure of what I'm getting? Any places they like to leak, etc...where there are no fairings I'd imagine it's pretty hard or impossible to tell if it's ever been dropped over...

Thanks for the input so far. It's been a big help to kinda know I'm on the right track here :)

if it's been laid over, places to look are the pegs. for whatever reason, they'll replace levers, grips and panels, but hardly ever the pegs. look at the side/bottoms of them. you'll know. look at mirrors, or lack of too, that'll be a tell tale sign. if there are spots for mirrors, but none are there, it's probably kissed the pavement. and any outside bolt heads. axle bolts etc. turnsignals. anything that sticks out, look at.

leaks? obvious spots. look under the frame, look at all side cases. it's air cooled, so that eliminates one protential problem, lol. look at the chain and where it's at on the adjustment. look at the rear sprocket. look for any signs of wear, and ask when the chain was last replaced. unless it's at the rear of the adjusters, then you'll want to be haggling a bit on the price.

a bike really is no different then a car when giving it a once over for purchase. don't be afraid to nitpick on an older scoot like this, unless it is immaculate and he has service records. chances are, you'll be replacing something not long after purchase.

sean, if yours is in really good shape, that $1850 range would be a good ball park. i'd ask $2k obo. $2.2k with fairing, probably.

i tried talking my friend in to selling me his bonneville, no go.

asked about the uncle's BSA and it'll probably never leave the garage.

0-2 matt isn't winning.

thats still 25 mph faster than I have ever been on a barstool though

Sweet. I paid $750 for it two years ago :)

lol, nice. i paid $500 for my 73cb. but with gas being what it is, 2-2.5 times what you paid isn't out of the park. if it's in good shape, and with only 8k on the odo, it should be, lol.

keep looking matt, something will pop up. a bonnie or a bsa isn't an easy grab any time.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

although I hit a solid 10 mph in a janitor's mop bucket a few times

35mph on a sleigh, though there was a truck pulling me. Fun as hell

mmmmmmm v8 barstool

There's a V8 shopping cart around here :P
