I fell asleep at 9:00 last night, so consequently I woke up 8 hours later, at 5:15, this morning. On a sunday. Boy I'm a lamo I guess. I was going to do some early morning Christmas shopping.

I really want to buy a new gun but can't decide WTF I want.

right now i'm really wanting about 4 different purposes

1. I want a lever action gun. No real rhyme or reason here, i've just never owned one so I want to try one out, not sure on caliber. My head says go .22 so i can plink for cheap, but I already have .22 pistols. My gut says go with the .357mag as it'd be way more fun although more expensive (it'll feed .38 just fine). No long range accuracy but I rarely shoot over 50yards at the range, and this would definitely be a purely range gun.

2. I want a .17HMR damn it. Been wanting one of these for a while. Contemplated getting the golden boy in .17 and solving #1 and 2 at the same time, but not sure if i can put a scope on the golden boy.

3. I want a long distance gun. Something 200-400 yards probably. This wouldn't be shot much and would be in the distant future so i can afford the proper optics.

4. Want an assault rifle. Was debating an AK but they seem to be way overpriced now and I may as well spend a little more and get an AR. But even the ARs are impossible to find right now, so this will be put on the back burner.

oddly enough not looking for a pistol right now for the first time ever, unless i find a unica.

get #2 in a golden boy. and yep, you can indeed go with optics on one. i'll have to look up some info on it, but i've seen it done. i also want a golden boy, but i'm thinking old school, like .45long colt. however one in .357 would be sweet as hell!

i've got both an ak varient (the saiga in .223) and my armalite m15. i'll take the ar everyday and twice on sunday now after owning and shooting both. at least in semi auto trim. the ar is just way more accurate (16" barrel and mid length gas system), ergos are far better and it's just as reliable, if you keep it lubed. it won't shoot the really cheap russian .223 stuff very well, but that's the ak's job anyway, lol. teh ar is my duty weapon and i wouldn't trade it for the world, definitely worth every penny over the ak IMHO.

Yes, you can put a scope on a Henry Golden Boy, its a cantilever design, yes you should get one in .17HMR.

For the longer distance gun, I'd go for a Ruger M77 MKII target model.

the ruger is nice, but i really gotta go savage for anything bolt action. teh accutrigger is the bomb, and if one likes a .25 to .5 lb pull, get the orange one. my 17hmr savage with silver accutrigger (1.5 to 6lb pull) is awesome. another good choice is the s&w ibolt. a bit pricey compared to the ruger and savage, liek the kimber, but a great shooter from all reviews.
