Stefan, have you looked at the classified sections at any Mac forums for a MacBook? I checked and Mac-Forum has a FS section if you don't have any look on CL. They pop up constantly in my area on CL though so finding one shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't, I've been leery buying one over the internet (ebay), and found a fair amount listed on CL that I could test out.

But the thought of buying one from a mac forum is a lot more appealing to me then ebay, so I'll check that out as well, thanks.

I would have a similar concern about buying on a forum, but if the person had good feedback I'd consider it. Apple sells refurbished Macs as well. I've heard of people buying used through Powermax too, but have no idea how legit they would be. Just some options.

Checked out the apple store and powermax, CL seems to still be cheaper, hopefully I'll be able to test out the keyboard, trackpad, battery life, and be a happy camper.

This seems to be perfect if all is well: http://tucson.craigslist.org/sys/2791920828.html

I'm hoping to finish my car up this weekend. Get her back on the road by Monday.

The posting is down, but I remember the one you put up a few days ago. I haven't used those MB's, but I like my unibody MBP a lot :)

I checked the Apple store and yeah, there's not much in the way of bargains. I know it updates regularly and I believe they come with a 1 year warranty. Something to think about if you care about that sort of thing. You seem to know computers though so if something did go wrong I'm guessing you'd be able to fix it.

Ahh dammit that one sold! Oh well I don't get paid for another week or so any way. Yeah if something does break I can likely replace it. However I'd prefer not dealing with the headache. :P

What surprises me is the number of charges.

True

They're in CL a ton though so no big deal. Resale is an upside to buying a Mac as well. If you don't like it you should be able to sell it for what you got into it for easily.

Yeah I'm sure several more will pop up in the coming days, and a nice resale value is always nice. :P

Fuckin A............ I'm so glad today is the last day of the week for me.

I'm only saying that cause my sleep and the wife's work schedule have left alot to be desired.

apparently they had a detective undercover posing as a student for months before they took action so who knows

Facebook has a project called hiphop, for transforming php code into c++, for better efficiency, they've deduced server cpu usage by roughly fifty percent, and it's all open source. Interesting stuff.

Good ole C / C++ :D

What do you guys use for backing up data? I have 20+ Gigs of work data that i would like to be able to back up without deleting my old backup and spending 20 minutes waiting to copy the new file over to the backup HD.

My main source of the data is on an external HD that I move often so i really want a good backup because of the possibility of dropping it.

do you run a desktop or laptop? Personally I'd run RAID.

I use 2 different computers and keep all the data on an external HD. I use my office computer to store the backup on the main HD.

However, I will have my own computer soon and won't have to move the external around.

What exactly is a RAID?

"redundant array of independent disks"

It is for servers to spray the files out across different hard drives so there is physical back ups and on some cases, faster access too.

You can use it in most desktops as well.

Disk A

Disk B

Anything you change on Disk A, changes automatically on Disk B, an exact copy. There are a bunch of different configurations though.

Which means when A gets fucked B gets fucked. I prefer regular manual backups

Depends what fucked means. A virus or mishap causing deletion then yes. A failed hdd, no.

Exactly. I like to have a say in when something gets duplicated or not otherwise real time errors cause problems on both.
