  • Chill- Lemme break it down as simple as I can on some of us here. The IHoP is like a big dysfunctional family. -M5 would be the uncle everyone respects and takes advice from. We may not like how he p

All you guys talking about service. I have never once in my life taken my car in for anything aside from warranty work. Not even an oil change. Hell, even tires I've always done myself.

Tires as in rotate? Or mounting? If mounting, that sounds like a bitch if you don't have some big machine.

Anyone have recommendations for a comfy office chair that breathes?

Aaron???

I want the same thing out do but drafting table hight.

These are similar to the ones I had at a previous job that was tax payer funded:

Interesting. It is amazing how fucking biased everyone is to the Aeron. Drives me nuts. As for that chair did it hold up?

I have not sat in one.. I was just pointing you that way. If you do find something cheaper let me know.

Anybody home?

This is the first for me. My 4runner was warrenty work when that happened.

As long as I get the ok, I will be doing all warranty maintenance and sending them the records. Sad part is I am far more honest then their paid monkeys.

At 86k I change the front and reaf diff and the transfercase on the 4runner and the oil was very nice and golden. Very little on the drain plug magnets. I was rather suprised because when I did the F150 is was holy shit bad at 60k.

Well it seems I found another dealership that has a shitty service department. Took the wife's new car in for the 5k mile check up and they marked that they checked the brakes and rotated the tires.

I am very picky about how I take care of my things. Day one I marked the tires and their location so I can watch the wear. I also keep notes on other things as I have always done. I got home got my notes and what did I see?!?!

The tires were not rotated, brakes not checked, and their tread depth was not even close to right!

I made a phone call and they offered to come get the car to make things right, I started laughing and said do you think I would for one second trust you to drive my car let alone do any work to it now? Needless to say corperate and I had a very long talk and I sent them copies of my logs with dates. Funny thing is this dealership promised me up front in the sales agreement that none of this would go on. Guess we will see what comes of this.

I can tell you this, I wil never trust a dealer to touch any of my vehicles unless I am right there watching them do the work under my direction!

Not trying to defend the dealership here, but those checksheets are bullshit. In a lot of cases we just run down and check yes, or good, or done. We don't get paid enough to really spend the time to read and answer everything appropriately. I will check the tire condition and evaluate weather they need to be rotated or not based on wear patterns and tread depth. If the vehicle has disc brakes we don't need to remove wheels to check the brake system.

Believe it or not, as big a whore as I am, I am loyal. It's never worth it in the long run. Never.

I know. That is why I have put her off for so long. We were drinking last night and she just shoved it in my face. Shocked the hell out of me, really, knowing her boyfriend would only be gone a short while. Now that I got a taste though.... man I want some more. I need to stay away from this girl.

This week I paid someone to change the oil in my vehicle, its the first time I have ever paid someone to work on my car/truck besides tires. Everything else I've done myself, but I have been busy and haven't gotten around to it yet, and it sure was easier to just pay them 30$ to change the oil and grease the front end rather than doing it myself.

I understand that, but he said that he did infact rotate the tires and I was wrong. That is what I have an issue with. Honestly goes a long way, all they had to do was say yea we felt the tires were fine and do not need rotated and the checksheet does not have that option.

Gotcha. They should not say they rotated the tires (the tech will have been paid warranty rate for that too) if they hadn't.

Yea it is a matter of honesty. Just a run down of a previous issue. My 4runner was in for a heater control issue, they fixed it great, BUT when they were backing it off the lift they cut one of the rear tires. They did replace it with a brand new tire, great.

Problem was when I called them ofter I saw the new tire to ask them, I was told what happened and they replaced it and they figured I would have never noticed and that is why it was not on the sheet I received.

Sorry for my hop ranting hoppers. smile.png

This is ihop, anything goes-except full bore porn shots. :D

That is one of those grey areas. I know what you mean about honesty, but sometimes it can bite us in the ass. I'll give you a real world example.

As the shop foreman I recieve an hourly rate and a bonus schedule based on cars out and customer satisfaction surveys. I am bonused on these surveys at 93%, 97% and 100% positive, and the difference in bonuses is pretty significant. My service writer and manager are also bonused similarly. Survey calls are random and varied... from 20 to 50 calls a month, so each call is HUGE.

One month we were running smooth with 100% CSS and we did a simple oil change on a car. 3 days later the lady came back and said her car sounded like a race car. So we pulled it in and it was loud as hell. Apparently the tech left the oil cap loose and it came off. It was loud, and had sprayed ~1/2 quart of oil around under the hood. We cleaned it up, put on a new oil cap, bought the lady some Bajangles breakfast, washed her car, and decided to be honest with her rather than bullshit her.

Guess who dinged us on a survey? Guess who cost me $500 in bonus? We could have hidden the whole deal and said she had run over a plastic bag or something, but we chose to be honest.

So I hate to say this, but when we deal with customers we tend wo weigh how we are going to deal with them. Generally if it is a drivability customer I will interview them, so the service writer and myself both get an idea of the type of person we are dealing with. First time customers will meet the service manager and service writer, and they will get an idea of who we are dealing with. But we develop an individual plan of how we deal with each customer based on our interactions. Some people will never be happy no matter how honest you are with them. Those are the people you leave in the dark as much as possible

Ford uses a friction modifier and it basically makes the fluid look like liquid graphite. Makes it difficult to distinguigh clean from dirty fluid.

The modifier is clear. That is the clutch material, and it is common in any positraction differential. The 4 runner is a 2 runner and it uses 2 peglegs with no clutches, hence no clutch material.

As little as I think of Fords they tend to do rear ends right. Their Exploder independent suspension diffs blow goats, but fixed axles are solid.

I have 3 bottles that are dark gray and look like liquid graphite.

as long as he has insurance coverage...

Also, just install things in such a way as to where they are not easily removed...

IE- false floor over batts, Bolt box down from the inside, install amps in such a way to where the whole cargo area needs to be removed to get it out.

I'm used to squeezing every little bit of equipment in my car so when it's all said and done.. i could have my doors open and still take quite a while just to get anything out.
