Miles Davis and John McLaughlin come to mind. I prefer fusion more than a traditional jazz, though.

If you want fusion then don't type in McLaughlin, but his old band the Mahavishnu Orchestra. That's some fucking fusion.

Only a bit; I've only stuck my feet into the jazz end of the swimming pool (as opposed to cannon balling into the rock end of the pool)
