It's not bad by any means, just not the best I've had. I do enjoy how smooth it is.

Guess I need to drive more diesels. Driven a Jetta TDI and it sounded like a tractor. I agree torque>hp, but in that car the delivery wasn't at all smooth. It only made power on the low end and was out of juice around 4k. Shouldn't base my assumption on the few diesels I've driven/ridden in though.

Is the added weight at the front end not an issue? The engine blocks on a diesel are much heavier and I've always been under the assumption it took away from the handling unless the car was specifically designed around the diesel platform.

Diesels don't have a big rpm range like gas engines, so you can't say that because it ran out of juice at 4k, 4k is probably near red line lol. Our diesel pick up would fucking haul at 1500, 2000rpm.

I would think all diesel vehicles are designed to deal with the additional weight, I don't see how they couldn't be...

I know diesels don't rev as high as a gasoline engine, I was saying the powerband is much narrower (in my very limited experience). The torque is pretty ideal for cruising, but it just seems like when you want to really go you get hit with all the power for a brief moment and its gone and time to shift again. Just my experience. I could be way off I'm not dissagreeing, just interested to hear how these problems are overcome. Or if those problems are non existant/irrelevant.

When I said designed around the platform I meant it was designed specifically to be used with a diesel. Rather than converted from a standard sedan.

Diesels thrive at Le Mans so I suppose I can see how a good one can offer numerous advantages over gasoline with minimal trade offs

Another common thing in my country is gas cars with LPG tanks. Around 20% more fuel consumption compared to gas, but it's twice cheaper.

Yeah, I had Dish several years ago and I liked them aside from losing signal all the time. Then I switched to Comcast and those idiots just fucked everything up. Then I went to AT&T U-verse and loved that, but it's not available where I live now, so I got DirecTV and love it aside from the bullshit pricing now. They upped it several months ago, but it just pisses me off and the receiver has been fucking up constantly. I've called several times to get shit fixed and they sent a Tech out here once, but it was a contractor and the guy was dirty, smelled like shit, sloppily dressed and had no ID. I told him there was no way I'd let him in my house, so I called DirecTV to complain, went through several people and managers, got a bunch of apologies and other bullshit, and nobody has come out again. Every time I call now, they keep giving me the run-around.

If nothing else write a letter to Michael White, Chairman and CEO of DirecTV. 2230 East Imperial Hwy, El Segundo, CA 90245. My mother did this when she was getting frustrated at them and all the issues she was having "magically" went away.

Matter of fact I just got a call from a 310 phone number, same area code as El Segundo...*insert Twilight Zone music here*

Diesel cars are another rarity here. Less dissapointed about that one. Great mileage etc, but the noise and power delivery are deal breakers.

Oh, young grasshopper you are confused. The noise on Euro diesels is not any different than the gas. In fact some gas engines are louder and crappier sounding. As for power delivery I am astonished you'd bring that up as a weakness being it is the strength of a diesel. Torque >>> HP always.

I know some Formula 1 and NHRA engineers that will strongly disagree with you.

You are jaded by the your diesel truck experience. Not all diesels are designed to pull stumps. Hell the Audi R10s rev up to 7K. Granted, by design they will always make more torque than HP, peaks that is, but the direct injection gasoline engines are beginning to pick up steam and reaping some of the benefits of the diesel design. The one's I've heard have also been noisier than the European diesels.

Perfect for a sweet cvt so there is no wasted gear shifting.

I REALLY wanted a diesel Q7 but the v12 version isn't coming to the us. :(

Over the MB? MB has a massive edge style wise IMO

I think most of my concerns about diesels would be resolved by driving a well designed one. M5 diesel looks cool
