Ok after my son's graduation I have been thinking of getting an SLR cammea after looking at other pictures. I really like the Sony Alpha series. I am looking at the a57 or the a65. If anybody has experience with either, let me know what you think about it.

Opps, I was looking at a ffp version vortex on their site, but looking at the regular version at swfa. Now I notice the extra price difference.

Yeah.... I was wondering how you got that price jump. If you join snipers hide, and call the guy who runs the sight he may hook you up with a deal. It may not work, but its worth a try.

Ive used the Sony a55 extensively and love it, the stock lens is kinda garbage on it but it is good for taking video. If you get some aftermarket lenses you will be seriously able to take a picture of anything and make it look professional. I will be buying my friends sometime soon too.

you could always just buy the shell then buy new lenses instead of getting the stock one.

If you are interested in making video with it I would suggest also buying an external mic.

Their bundle option offers that.

You can get great Minolta lenses on Ebay for cheap.

meh. Cheap glass is cheap glass. Haven't used their new stuff, but their old stuff really was sub-par in my opinion.

I would say that 55mm isn't wide enough for a good all purpose lens. I would try to get closer to 30mm. I have a cheap 55-300mm (Sigma) and I can tell you that the 55mm is simply not wide enough for me to keep it on the camera. I only use it for macro or zoom shots. I strongly advise getting another lens to accompany that telephoto.

I don't know, but DSLR is quite an investment, so it will be wise to do some reading before any kind of purchase.
