Plank exercises work your core muscles quite well

Watching a six foot tall security guard who looks like he was chiseled from stone struggle with a 5 gallon water jug is quite entertaining for some reason.

My laptop is pretty much shot. Needs $800 worth of screen and fan. Time to buy something else.

Considiering I: surf web, email/outook, Excel, Word, and generally dick around I'm contemplating an Ultrabook. Any reason why not?

Travel ability including battery life are paramount. A desktop less than 10 cable docking station to two monitors is key as well.

What kind of computer is it and what is wrong? Let me know if you will be throwing it away.

There is really so much out there that it is hard to make strong recommendations. I will say that I was drawn to Asus, Lenovo, and Samsung for the type of computers I was looking at. I never do docking stations so I don't know what to say there.

Ironically enough. I was about to post about how my new laptop battery will not die. This is my 3rd day owning it, it didn't come fully charged, and I plugged it in with 25% because I'm going on a trip today and want it full for it.

The only problem I have had with it so far is that it seems like the spacebar may b a little bit finicky. I may be just getting used to it though.

Well that's it.............As of now married life seems to have run its course. Told the wife I have had enough unhappiness. Shit is not easy to admit.

I agree with the premise Sean but for athletic reasons sometimes more protein is needed. For mass or not.

Even aerobic exercise benefits from more protein.

I see no reason to not use whey however. Especially since it is part of the cheese making process and a natural food source.

I am always open to new ideas and methods. Technically, I am not trying to bulk, I'm actually dropping weight (not necessarily planned). As for me, it is the sheer amount of protein volume needed to just maintain. To gain and bulk, it would have to go up even more.

Beleive me I know how "expencive" in protein it is to just maintain. At your low BFP it is worse.

BFP is an interesting topic in the relation to protein intake. The challenge is the avoidance of most carbs, sugars and some fats while still taking in large amounts of protein. I should be, based on the old rule of thumb, taking in 200 grams of protein everyday to maintain. I know, its not all that often that I am able to hit 200 grams, so to really gain, if I was in that mode, it would be a part-time job as I remember how difficult it was when I was bigger then now.

Presuming your getting enough micronutrients and minerals from your other meals, then I don't see any reason why tuna isn't helpful for those that need the additional kcal+protein for building mass. Especially when it's easy to eat, and doesn't require cooking a ton of meals. Everything is a compromise, and personally it's one I'll comfortably make.

Not really sure how "empty kcalorie" tuna is, as it does contain iron, vitamin d, niacin, b6, b12, and selenium. Perhaps the quantities are small, and the processing of the fish is extremely poor--I don't know.

Read the contents. Not saying all preserved tuna is bad, but the process to preserve meat usually involves things that are absolutely terrible for you.

I will also never agree with building mass as a good idea. Flat out don't understand. Exception being if you need to in order to be healthier, but if not for the sake of what?

Well I train for strength, but you can only build so much strength before you start putting on mass.

For your core, if you hold it for a while, you can feel it. Personally, I need to be doing more exercises like this, part of the reason why I have tried to squeeze some yoga in from time to time.

What has your body done to let you know you need that protein? Reading some source saying it is appropriate is not a good reason. Not saying that is the case. I personally am a protein fiend, but in a natural way. I get nearly instantaneously grumpy when I don't have enough but it's NEVER been an issue with needing more. I played with whey a bit when biking and whether I used it or not it didn't change my feelings.

Muscle mass retention, repair and strength. I know if I have not been getting enough protein, I tear down the muscles more then they are able to rebuild, along with power when going with large muscle group/heavy lifts etc.

I see no reason to ever use an overly processed anything. Doesn't mean eating some things are bad, but in excess is terrible. And yes cheese is processed.

For the sake of current discussion cheese is not something I would consider processed. Miso or tofu would then also be considered processed would it now and thus be bad for you. You had recommend that as a great protein source.

I am not trying to trap you over this, just trying to understand your thinking.

As for the aerobic comment, if you are tearing muscle fibers through muscle strain, then you will benefit from a higher intake of protein than a sedene individual.

You know I was not suggesting to eat all protein, or even some 80% kind of ballance. Just that in relation those who work muscles benefit from replenishing them.

Finally my discussion is 100% based on a sport or performance standpoint. I enjoy lifting weights. For me it is also one of the only work outs that I can do regularly that I enjoy. My bone structure allows me to put on more muscle than most guys in a "natural" way.

I dont think anyone disagrees with being healthy should be goal number one, but if people are breaking down muscle through exercise then building it back up with more protein is important. And with that protein usually an overall intake of more kcal from all food sources.
