QUESTION: How do you tell people who are looking to have you build them a box that their ideas are idiotic or wont work correctly?

Today i had a some-what friend of mine come up and ask me to build him a box. For two lid level pioneer 12's and some cheap assed 15. I told him unless he is going to run the drivers at different frequincy ranges it isnt a good idea, and because i cant share the air chamber between 2 12's and the 15 that it woul take more materials because i would essentially be building two boxes. I reccomended that he sell the 15 and buy anotehr 2 12's or aotehr 12 or sell it all and get a new, higher quality 15. He says that is what he wants and if i wont do it for him he will find someone else who will.

Oh well, i could have made some god money on it.

Flat out tell him you won't do it and that you have standards for what you make.

Well sir, I look at it this way. If after I tell them it sounds like arse, they still want it. I'll build it the way they want. Then after they realize I was right, and it does sound like arse. I charge them double to rectify the situation

Ramos's wisdom gives me peace of mind. I will tell him tomarrow agian, and reiderate my point. If he still demands it i will do it for him.

My only other problem is when he shows it off. He may think it sounds good, but everone else may not. My reputation is built around people who barely evne know me hearing someones system and going "Damn"

Then he will have the system that you emphasize the construction methods while showing someone. I can't say I'm proud of the way every system I have ever installed sounded. BUt I can damn sure say they were well built

Hell I just built an enclosure for a pair of freakin dual 10's. Boy that sounded great. But a fooking elephant could walk on it

It's not your job to make sure other people's setups sound good. Ultimately, it's his money, and if he truly wants something that'll sound like ass, I'd take the money and oblige the man.

You can buy a nice dictionary with the money from a project like that

I live in an area where the flea market is deemed a viable source for audio equipment.

When speaking of subs or amps 90% of the local yocals think the flea market garbage is top notch. right up there with circut chitty and best buy

The other 10% are those who equate the size of the speakers with volume. I.e. 15"sub will be louder than 10" no matter the other variables
