When the baffle of the speaker becomes "significant" compared to the wavelength you are playing through the speaker it causes some erroneous gain. One of the main reasons why spherical speakers are "the best" <---huge generalization that isn't complete.

yeah, i'm breaking the rules...

ok, baffle becomes significant, meaning the enclosure? or at least the part where the speaker is mounted? explain a bit more?

i love learning stuff...

If you have a one foot wavelength coming out of a speaker it will be a spherical source which is the response you are looking for out of a speaker, but when you get to high frequencies you get the wavelengths to stack up constructively and then you have amplification at those frequencies.

It is a problem with measurement mics too, which is why most real measurement mics are 1/2" or smaller. The real high frequency mics are only an 1/8" and of course measurement mics have correction curve electronic filters to compensate for having multiple wavelengths on the diaphragms as well.

It does make me wonder what the "weighting" curve for a TL mic is. I am not even sure Termlab knows though as they surely don't post chit on their site. I'd like to use a real mic to correlate to TL results as it wouldn't be that hard if I knew the waiting curve. And no matter what their site says, my method would be way more repeatable.

What's happening Aaron?  Been out in the Brab lately?

No, sadly,

I am facing a very depressing delema with that car. It did not pass emissions for the first time, but it could be just a matter of a tune up. It sits in my driveway, unfinished.

Current issues:

- door pods not finished

- not sure if I am going to pull the rear set of component out of the door pods

- cannot put car seat in the car with those door pods

- even with a brute of an amp on the RL-p, the trunk is still a bass trap

- wheels need to be repainted

- scared to hook up BLA with 8053 due to the level of warmth the Orions are already getting

- radio antenna is not hooked up

- Amp rack not built, trunk is major disaray

- no time, and even less money to do anything with it

- excellent car that now cannot fill my needs

It was perfect for me when I was working in DC and had a monster highway commute and it was just me, but now... Arthur comes first, and the system is in dire need of help. My commute is very short and I need a four door, not a long and low 2 door that can chew up the highway miles with the best of them.

sorry for the long vent

Sorry to hear your frustrations, but I know exactly what you mean. Every car I have ever had has come to something like that. Part of the reason I bought the M, 4 door that behaves like a 2 door. I too have been thinking about redoing the install in it though. The damn trunk is a bass trap, I'd love to go IB but won't tear up the car, so perhaps either a bandpass piped in through the ski pass or a sealed box with a baffle connected to the ski pass is what might happen next. I won't have anytime to do chit though until I move which might be a while.
