Hovland. And indeed it is Madisound. I hung out with Adam for a few hours and heard pretty much every kit they have. The Fostex 120's are unbelievable for the price. On music I didn't really like them, but on plain female vocals they destroyed the Seas Thors/Odins behind them. I have a newfound appreciation for full range drivers....go Jim!

They'd normally have more, but were unpacking from a show last night (out of all places Minneapolis and the fvckers didn't invite me). :

Oh and the new 16 series Excels walk on the 5.25 Revs in my book. More midbass and still the Seas sound.

My intent was to leave with a pair of the Peerless Exclusives as well, but at this point I am not interested anymore.

I will say it now. My truck is the last GM product I will buy. More stupid ass shit has gone wrong with it than even some stupid Yugo would have problems with. After visiting their R&D I understand why as well. One big for Detroit. I do see Ford improving things, Chrysler getting sold, and GM being big ole GM.

I've heard those cabinets are bass-shy and a little peaky...mine definitely won't be

My 168Sig's are arriving tomorrow, methinks...

Dynamics were lacking on either end as well as they weren't super smooth accross the range. They did however really embarrass their other speakers when you compared them in the vocal range. The stage was amazingly concise. My impression from switching to the Thor/Odin/Soloists from the 120's was that the recording was mic'd really poorly. On the little Fostex the stage was better than anything I have ever heard. Albeit particular to only female vocals, once you added full range there were some serious peaks that really bothered me.

The post-D'Appolito TL's and pre-D'Appolito MTM's. To put it simply, I won't buy into any of Joseph's designs. I really, really didn't like the TL's in comparison but from discussions with Adam I blame the crossover more than the enclosure; however, the enclosure might be a bit suspect too. Either way, i am going to build mine into a little ported 2 way with an 1189 for the eff of it. Should make some real sexy office/bedroom speakers.

I did leave with some "mains" ideas though. Now I just need a new house and a fatter wallet.

Oh and by the way, there will be more new Seas drivers out soon too!

Yeah, the BK-16 cabs aren't known for being really great for those drivers.

I've got plans for a two-way tower with SS 9500 soft domes and 7" C-Quenzes...damn those drivers are tempting

Couldn't afford the $800+ in parts this go-round though.

Don't get me wrong, for what they excel in they sound unbelievable. In fact, before today I wouldn't have thought about full ranges, but now I realize I need more than one set of mains. Before today for some unknown reason I was under the impression there was some gold standard that held itself accross all types of music, I now know better. You need a variety of speaks for doing what they are designed to do best. I really cannot believe I overlooked this, but probably should stay off the pipe and its associated dream...only brownies from now on

I am curious to see how the w envelops this. I can hear it now, "why is it exactly that we need more than one set of front speakers?".
