Some highlights from house-hunting in the B'burg area:

A house where the previous owners removed all the doorknobs, all lightbulbs, and all plate covers from the outlets

Walking into a house with 60A electrical service

Going down to the basement and seeing large, red hydraulic jacks holding joists up

A pile of wet carpet on the basement floor, a garden hose going into a locked room, a property with obvious drainage issues and a nervous expression on the realtor's face

Under $200k is a scary place to be around here. The problem is, as long as there's a hint of proximity to the school they'll charge insane amounts for heaps...until someone razes it and builds something good on the land. Just seems like there hasn't been a lot of turnover on the old construction yet. Go 20-30min out from the campus and it's normal again...
