The budget could probably even be upped, especially if I decide to sell my Magnepans, and if I was to find something that has hi-def component/hdmi inputs/outputs.

But from what I see, normally the ideal piece of equipment for me never exists or at some insanely expensive price.

Something I'm worried about is the fact I'm using my TV (Sharp Aquos) as the audio out, and using it to switch components as well. I'm curious as to how crappy it is to the audio. Since I use the setup for movies I'm not going to go through the bother of switching chit back and forth and would prefer a preamp that I could do all my component switching in, but I'm not sure something like that exists for a reasonable price tag.
