Seriously considering putting a couple layers of butyl mat on the floorboards of Silver sometime this summer; extensive road trips seem to make the floors a bit toasty. Random Thought: Since sound deadner uses mass loading to transfer acoustic noise into heat, if I put two layers of <insertbutylmatnamehere> on the floorboards wouldn't that make the floors warmer? My knowledge of physics is limited to basic Newtonian concepts so I have NFI... :unsure:

Managed to get an Terk passive FM antenna from the junk store. Along with the old bookshelf cd player system (circa 1994 Sony) I got from my uncle and some miscellaneous odds and ends I'll have about $10 invested into a ghetto-tastic computer speaker setup :drink40:fing05.gif

And you are using the terk for what?

Radio reception, its a dual tape deck/5 CD changer/AM/FM all in one unit. Reception is about a bajillion times better versus the coat hanger set up I had going on fing05.gif

The aluminum backing really helps with the heat ;)

<--didn't realize there was still FM radio

<-- still waiting for the whole Sirius/XM merger bullchit to get through before even considering satellite radio

The more I play with this bookshelf system the more I'm impressed with it. Each...monitor (I guess thats what they're called?)...weighs probably 10 lbs., the main unit itself about 25 or 30 pounds...solid...

Ah, CD >> broadcast junk :)

So how is this for logic in picking out some low cost ambient drivers:

1) I want some low freq output

2) I prefer soft domes

3) My guess in the cheap domain that the simpler the response the better

No: Kevlar cone on an 8" in a 2 way doesn't seem logical, plus its spendy

No: Aluminum tweet and cone 8" 2way scares me.

Maybe: Lack of details scare me

Yes: Poly cone and silk tweet, reasonable looking crossover for a cheap pair

Obviously either of the last two options are available in 6.5's, which a big part of me thinks would be better. Even in a 6.5 I am not interested in the hard coned drivers, gotta stay with KISS...which of course is probably the 6.5 version of either of the last two.

Someone talk me into something. I should order tomorrow.

***obviously just for rooms that aren't friendly for putting speakers in: kitchen, dining room, master bathroom, master bedroom, workout room:: all real rooms will get something much nicer

I seem to be getting an AM station out of Austin with the new antenna. Neato.

<Devil's Advocate>

About how many sq ft of butyl would it take to double layer a regular cab mini truck; A and B pillars, doors, floor and firewalls, headliner, the whole shebang. (Specifically its an '01 Ranger) Just looking at some ball park figures...

</Devil's Advocate>

How far is Austin?

~250 miles via higway, as the crow flies IDK

Cool, thanks Ryan. You heard any of them?

No, sorry, but I had some MCM select in-wall drivers years ago and they did very well. I have also owned a couple of those 8" drivers they have that are very similar to the popular TB 8" drivers and loved them.

Got a ton of filling/sanding to do this weekend @ Dave's, but the BIB's are done...kinda :)

Ramos, what grits do you have for that Mouse thing?

<--didn't realize there was still FM radio

There's only one station here worth listening to, it's a shame too as there are some absolutely gorgeous tubed tuners out there, just nothing worth using them for anymore.

I didn't get a PM, I guess I don't know about the Fi sub :(

I really should stay out of that section...
