The 5400 rpm drives are usually 7200rpm drives turned down to reduce noise, many of them burst to 7200 when accessing data. Not sure on that one since I didn't look at it.

Pretty much all the laptops i've looked at have 5400rpm drives, i assumed they were just more stable or something but you all would know better than I.

god damn it, i need to find a place to live where they will just let me move in. all these places want me to come up and look around. I understand that, but honestly i'm 3.5hrs away, i'm not driving up there unless i can possibly move my stuff in the same day.

The speed is definitely for acoustic reasons, but my comment on ramping up to 7200 is only for desktop drives. I wasn't thinking about laptops when I posted this am.

The manufacturers are having a harder time with laptops though as the proximity of you to the pc is greatly different than a desktop. I will add that my hdd is pretty much the loudest thing in my desktop and I have a quiet one.

The hdd in my dvr is obnoxious, but I like things quiet.

But I pull up and this lady is like excuse me sir, can you spare a dollar for gas? fudge. fine, here, now go away. a minute later her man came and asked the same thing. No, I already gave her a dollar, so you go get a job. Blew my savings on your stupid bum ass. Not going to that station again. Everybody there looked like a winner They asked everybody that came around. I hate people like that.
