Speaking of turbo engines. Was talking with dad the other day and he said the 4cyl they made for Oldsmobile was running 48psi of boost on it.

WTF?!?!

has to be an IndyCar engine, no?

It was the engine the Olds Quad 4 was based off of, it went in the 'Aerotech' prototype car, I think it set a land speed record of over 200mph.

Pretty awesome to watch a video in a class and see the engine your dad helped build. :)

what class would that be?

It was some BS engineering class that that we were watching a SAE video about engine design if I remember correctly.

They also made shit like full magnesium oil pans for the Dodge Viper prototype with swinging arm oil pickups so it didn't starve in high g maneuvers.

meh, dry sump

Never was feasible for production reasons, but it was cool as hell from what he was saying.

yeah, I can see where there'd be reliability problems with it, but that's one hell of an ingenious idea

The stuff they use in jet planes is even cooler. Floating steel balls to plug holes in perforated baffles in order to keep the oil in its respective place.
