Not at all. Hell my neighbors have lived in their house since 1972 and still don't even have a key for it.

I need the panel as my interface for home automation. I don't want to rely on Microsuck Wintrash to control my lights when a hardware solution is available. Needless to say I know have a software front end that will interface everything including: security, lighting, home stereo, video, irrigation, internet (weather, pandora...), and all sorts of other stuff but I need a piece of hardware for it to talk to.

It will let me do cool things with logic like: If after "sunset" and someone walks into the hallway, turn on the hallway light with a slow ramp up to 20% of total.

No need for night lights when the house can do it automatically.

Pretty much everything else will be automated in a similar fashion.
